A TALE OF TWO SKIING BIRTHDAYS

Thread Starter

Betsy’s May 1 birthday has been marked over the years skiing with a number of Epic friends at Loveland.

With this interesting snow season however, some things just had to change as we anticipated an early closing of Loveland along with the “Mayday!-Mayday!” call from Bob Peters.

Genius!  What better to have two birthday ski adventures; one held at Loveland (April 14 with cake and Epic friends) and another at A-Basin (May 1 without cake BUT with Epic friends, a special couple from Jackson Hole and the youngest US skier ever to win a National title)

^Birthday girl Betsy and Mr. Vertical share the birthday cake (Mr. Vertical's birthday April 5th).  RachelV, segbrown and COSkiGirl smile on...a great day at Loveland.

Now to A-Basin and the May 1 birthday girl...ski party 2:

^Mikaela was so nice wishing Betsy a wonderful Birthday.  A remarkable young woman (yes...both of them ;)

A really superb skiing day at A-Basin with our special guests from JH; Bob and Ruthie Peters.  Good luck and keep us posted on your footwork Bob icon14.gif

We learned just today that A-Basin was closing down this coming Sunday.  While an odd season, today made a great end to it for Betsy and I.  Thanks All!

Looks like a great day, good snow, lots of laughs.  Is this a new classic event?

Don you look great (you too Betsy!)

And a warm hello to everyone else in those pictures that I've met.

When I see pictures like this I wish I lived in Colorado. Happy birthday to the Denvers -- who could live only in Colorado!

Glad you got another day in! Happy Birthday! :)

Looks like a great time. Love to see the ladies using speed courses!

As always,  - Love your MayDay/Betsy's birthday TR's. Adding the odd snow year, Two birthday celebrations, and Bob P to the mix had to make it extra interesting!

We're still coming out for Mother's day, since we have things booked, and we'll have a great time.  If you decide to come out for a bike ride, we'll be sure to have the festivities in full swing for a Bear GTG!

Hi Trekchick!

We're looking forward to seeing everyone next week.  We plan to come up for some road biking and if we stay overnight, maybe some hiking too!  We were thinking Saturday/Sunday but we're flexible depending on what the plans are up there.

See you soon!yahoo.gif

Thanks Steve.  Feeling great currently with the body moving well.  Still gotta watch the sun...slow steps.  I hope all is well with you.

Great day...and great "classic" suggestion.  Hope to see you at the boat this summer season.

A visit would be welcomed...we have plenty of room and would enjoy an opportunity to "show off" another wonderful playground.

You would have loved the snow on this second Bday gig Rachel...nice grip to "let it fly".  Now, as I've mentioned on FB, get that bike of yours ready ;)

Basil J, you would have enjoyed watching these "chicks" rip.  I think Bob Peters got some action shots...maybe a separate post with those in the near future.

As Betsy has mentioned TC, we are really looking forward to you guys coming out.  Regardless of snow, your visit will fulfill the season for me along with the Mothers Day crowd closing it out.  Bike, Hike are high on our list.

Wow.

Have fun in all that snow.

Happy Birthday, Betsy!

I can't believe it's a year ago today that Ruthie and I joined all of you at A-Basin.  That means my toe surgery 1-year anniversary is tomorrow!  That doesn't seem possible.

By the way, it snowed here in Jackson last night, too.  Almost six inches on our deck in the valley, which is as big a single-night snowfall as we had all season.  We're on our way up in about half an hour to skin for some powder turns.

News from the birthday gang implies that the snow conditions are a bit better this year than when you skied with them Bob
Message from one of them as we are approaching the area....

We are skiing at Loveland in very deep snow!

What a wonderful birthday present.  Hope you all had fun!

Bob, it really is silly isn't it?

While others are annoyed by the shut down of I70 we were excited because we knew it meant Powder (with a capital P)

Yeah.

With all the crap that's going on with the world, I'm quite proud of the fact that my little corner of it revolves around skiing.

If that make me shallow, I'll revel in my shallowness.

Snow forever!

9, 10, 11, then 15 inches. Hmmmm. You could sell a lot of those rulers to ski resortswink.gif

Yes, there is snow in Colorado in May!

Happy Birthday, Betsy!

And thanks to the rest of the May Day Gang for a great day of powder skiing.

This image may sum up the snowfall for May Day 2013: my little Mazda in the Loveland parking lot at the end of the day:

And it was mid-winter light snow!

Best regards,
Bob

So Bob
Did you have an avy shovel to dig out

Nice job on the video
I had two of them in the car. But the snow was so light that, after I brushed it off the roof and windows, I was able to drive away without shoveling.

I expect it will stay that light this morning--for a few minutes, at least!

See you there!

Best regards,
Bob
