What, no football (soccer) fans? - Page 6

Got off the Tube at the Olympic Plaza and Barclays had the Premeir Leauge trophy there. By the time I went back to photograph it it was gone.

I have a photo w/ the FA Cup.  Took it when City came to San Francisco last summer.  Seems like we only get to take photos w/ trophies when City gets them :).

I've seen the Stanley Cup up close a couple of times, Dallas 1999 and Raleigh 2006.  Quite a sight, really... REALLY cool.  The Copa Del Rey party was also pretty cool too though.. NOT!  Nice header Ramos!

LOL!

Greece losing to the Czechs doesn't surprise me.  But I don't think many saw Poland surviving and managing a tie against the Red Army.  Solidarity hahahahaha!!!

I don't rate the Greeks highly (I don't think anyone does), but they generally do not give up goals.  Giving up two early goals did it for them because they usualy defend and take what's there on the counter.  That just did not work after the two early goals, they needed to attack and play offensive and they aren't used to it.  So much for my Russia/Greece pick for that group.  I do not see them beating Russia in the last game.  Chechs were night and day in the first two games, played a much better game yesterday (perhaps we should account for the quality of the opponent in this case as well).  Russia has been playing really well, I'd like to see them start Pavlychenko (spelling?) instead of the current forward.  That kid Dzagoev just keeps scoring, so much for our golden boot picks :).

Today is my favorite group of the tournament.  It'd be pretty cool if Portugal and Poland won and everyone had 3 points going into the last game.  Perhaps I'm only saying this because that would make it possible for my Germany/Holland pick to materialize.

On the cup topic, our company brings the Stanley Cup every year and employees can take pictures with it.  I guess I do not follow hockey enough to go and stand in line for it.

Speaking of up close:

Was on my way to a meeting, they were just about to put it back in its case. The bloke from the MasterCard commercial was there so pretty sure it was the real one. Amazing how good the iphone camera is wot? This was taken on a blackberry Bold9000 (1st generation).

Back on topic...

Probably the best game of Euro 2012 saw Portugal edge Denmark out in the last 5 mins of regular time. Inspired substitution by the POR manager - and a cracker of a goal. Varela had missed the volley already with his left foot. He managed to reset on one bounce and drill it. Kudos to the Danes for fighting back from 2-0 down and almost pulling out a result.

Now, die Mannschaft vs. die Nederlandische. This should be one of those matches that goes beyond sport...

popcorn.gif  It's great to work from home.  I had some training during the first match but it ended early so I saw the last 15 minutes uninterrupted.

Gomez is doing right by those of us that picked him for the golden boot. Can't see the Oranje getting out of this group now. Huntelaar to start their next game? Van Persie's been log - absolute rubbish.

Speaking of log, what about Ronaldo's miss(es)? This was the man that slotted a half century of goals for Madrid this year? Best European footballer of his generation?

No phone on your camera?  I mean camera on your phone?  I wouldn't carry a phone if it didn't have a camera.  I like to take pictures more than I like to talk to folks haha..

BWAHAHA!!  He did dump a couple of tasty dishes served up to him on a silver platter.  Can't say I've never blown a wide open goal shot like that before though..redface.gif

How bout Messi's hat trick the other night?yahoo.gif  Guess he doesn't count as European though.

Messi's the best! Ronaldo may be bigger and have a harder shot but Messi's got work rate, team play and accuracy on his side. By all accounts he's actually a nice person too - when you can get his mind off football!

It was against the Seleção, and he was being man-marked by Sandro so it'll have to be rated! Also, FWIW, Argentines consider him more Catalan than Argentinian, so your argument is certainly valid ;-)

Prior to today's game Portugese media asked Agger (Danish CD and captain) what he thought about the upcoming game and about playing against the best offensive player in the world.  Agger's response - "I didn't know Messi was Portugese" :) :) :)

Smackdown! Looked like he did his job and got into his head. He had something to prove, and still does...

My iPhone doesn't work here (Verizon uses a broadcast technology they don't use much in Europe) so I have a £3 phone with a prepaid SIM card.) There was a big crowd and I had my mind set to see the Olympic park and not stand in the line. By the time I decided to wait in line it was too late. I got some great pics today with my DSLR but no laptop with me and the image uploaded doesnt work with my iPhone.

Struth. Memories of the Tartan Army in France - WC '98 I think? After their final game, they drank their town dry but no fighting or agro.

Big Odlichno to Croatia for pulling one back to draw Italia and keep me alive in this group!

Went to Emirates Stadium today and got an Arsenal jersey for £20 at Camden Market. I'll have to put up pictures when I get home.

Nice collection, I have about a third of that.  When you said Arsenal I assumed they were your team in England (they are mine).

Just so I don't start getting bombarded, as long as you are not a Chelsea fan I can actually stand you :) :) :).

I guess I prefer Chelsea to MU.  They are just both too full of fair weather fans.  Honestly, I think of MU much like the Yankees or Miami Heat here in the US trying their best to purchase championships by throwing money at them instead of heart.

I started following Liverpool some when a relative emailed me a photo of Gildart Street in Liverpool.  My grandfather also had a collection of family tree research linking us to the Gildarts of Liverpool way back in the 1600s.  So, I decided that has to be my European club league favorite.

Great match tonight against Sweden. Watched it from Harry's bar in Canary Wharf. Tons of new friends and strangers piled around the TV in the basement made for an amazing atmosphere. Now have to try to unwind and get to sleep as I have to catch the train to London to do some tours at the British museum tomorrow in about 5.5 hours so some sleep is in order.

Enjoy! I could spend days in there...

Seems like England is going to make me eat my words about them in1/4 finals.  That was a great game and they deserved, they'll only get better with Rooney back.  France is still looking good, they have rebounded nicely after the WC fiasco.

How about them Greeks, God help the opponent they score first on.  Russia literally had a great 1/2 of tournament and then played pretty bad in the second half.  Wonder what happened at the half time of the Poland game.  Tomorrow should be another good one in the group of death.  Schweinsteiger promised Van Bommel that they will do everything to beat Denmark, but will Holland be able to beat Portugal.  Dutch defenders have looked suspect at best, Ronaldo and Nani may have a field day.  Denmark better step it up considering that Russia let me down on my picks already.
