Crazy seeing a closing weekend like that, eh?

Whistler now shut down for season but Blackcomb is still going until the end of May then the glacier summer season starts. Conditions naturally pretty variable with freezing level and sunshine changes. Avoid the cornices but it's still easy to get a least a few good runs per day. The ski out to valley at end of day is a slushy assortment of hero bumps mixed with bare spots to dodge or jump but I still find it fun. Download if you worry about your bases.

Back at Snowbird. One more week until closing this year. Getting pretty thin in spots. typical spring condityons although it got pretty cold last night and the mountain was pretty forzen this morning.

Wow. That last weekend at Stevens Pass looks like it was awesome.

Too bad they ran out of skiers, because it looks like the snow would have gone on for a long time.

Skied on Saturday at Chamonix (Grands-Montets) after a business trip to Geneva. 30cm (1 foot) of heavy wet snow had fallen overnight at the top. Today (Tuesday May 8, 2012) is closing day.

well, truth be told there was a price to pay for the snow; away from the mountains the weather all week in the PNW was cold, rainy and pretty miserable.

Way to earn your turns, Bob!

Well, there's a lot of motivation available when the lifts stop running.  And the skiing was lots of fun:

That is what is happening here right now. Miserable rain on the valley floor that may be snow measured in feet at elevation.

We'll see this weekend.

I got up to the top of Snowbowl a bit late today (7:25pm), and the snow had already set up a bit more than I wanted, but I skied today, and that does not suck. smile.gif

Hmmm....so the die is cast, I put in for leave at the beginning of June to go to Beartooth Pass for a few days. I've never been there, but a couple of my Snowbowl buddies went there a couple years ago, and came back with a lot of pictures and stories of the 40-50 degrees headwalls, so I've always wanted to hit it, and this year looks good for it.

Didn't think they got as much snow, way out there in MT. Will have to hike for it this weekend myself.
Hope its worth it VA, post up a TR.

Beartooth Pass reaches nearly eleven thousand feet in elevation. There'll be plenty of snow.

I'm going to Mammoth this weekend. Last weekend was pretty good. Will be camping this weekend. And hitting the natural hot springs. And generally enjoying the perfect afternoon weather after skiing all morning.
