Seven Springs , Pa. reopens for 1 day April 24 th

The season was sub par but the resort picked up about 15 in. Sunday- Monday and will reopen with 1 lift and 1 slope tomorrow!

 

Pretty crazy. Ironically there was an article in the Pittsburgh Sunday paper regarding climatic change an the possibility SW Pa. could have the same weather as perhaps Alabama by the middle of the century. I'll be long gone but I'm crtainly hoping this prediction is wrong.

Scooped here too. Yeah, the Springs is already bragging that they are the only east coast resort to re-open. I'm not sure but I think Jay Peak just closed for weekday skiing this past weekend and may open next weekend.

According to their Twitter feed they're the only resort on the East Coast open tomorrow.

I see that they will have one trail, Wagner, open and $24 lifts. I haven't been there in years. Is Wagner worth a drive from Philly? (It would take me to 50 days for the year)

Wagner is maybe 300 vertical, and lower intermediate in pitch. How important is it to get to 50 days? I'm not interested in paying $24 for what is offered. If I had a season pass and the day off of work I might go just to say I skied Western PA on April 24.

Seven Springs marketing is on the ball.  In addition to their YouTube video, they also got national coverage by ABC's Good Morning America this morning.  Sounds like there could be 15-16 inches by morning.

For video of central PA and the Seven Springs base on Mon morning, check out the adventures of a Baltimore meteorologist.  I think he left his house around 4:30am.  Arrived around 9:30.  Seven Springs snow report says 0-8 inches for today's fun.

 

 

Here's the scoop on how they managed to get open for today.

  "But after a burst of heavy snow in the afternoon, the Director of Ski Patrol Dick Barron thought it was worth a try. The crew sent a groomer up one of the trails, and the snow held. After a few test runs, the race was on to round up enough people to work the chair lifts, patrol, and grooming. They did it."

If I didn't have such a ton of stuff that has to be done right away at work, I'd be playing hookey and driving the 4 hours to get that one last ski day in for the season.  Even though I can't make it there today, my opinion of Seven Springs just went up a notch.

You guys that are going and making that kind of effort are amazing. I'm 1 hr 10 min away and can't get motivated to make the trip. Shame on me.

Had I not spent 9 hours driving back and forth to NY yesterday I might have been motivated to take off work and make the 4 hour drive to 7 Springs today, but here I am sitting at work. icon13.gif

roundturns no shame, I remember thinking on the drive up that it would have been easier to just go to work but I like skiing way more than work so while the day was far from epic, it was skiing. I was suprised how nice some of the snow was, considering.

 

I'm not a 7 Springs fan but CHEERS to them for pulling this off.

Good for you jimmy and all of yunz yinzers that made it out that day. As I said, if I had a pass and the day off work I probably would have gone. It would be an expensive day for me despite the free hot dogs. Even more expensive . Oh, I considered it and my son who has a seasons pass was hoping but damn reason prevailed.
