Why do all the non-ski helmets get the /cool/ tech?
At first glance it seems that it's because every place these technologies are used there is a high concern of -piercing- type impact, which means that the shell itself must be designed for continued integrity.
Ski (and cycle) helmets are not designed for continued integrity after impact. Which seems obvious, but it also seems that we've given up alternate designs for the sake of weight and manufacturing ease.
To paraphrase, I am wondering if the comolded energy-absorbing shell design isn't really a technological dead end.
