yeah I know can't really compete with him. I actually only have my old race skis left been burrowing from friends for the season...

A timeline of my jacket (Columbia Jacket, not sure the exact name.)
Purchased: 9th grade for about 45 dollars. to use as an everyday jacket for skiing, sledding, anything outdoors in winter. I use it for this throughout high school. It worked well.
2010: I move to Vermont to ski and go to school, in that order of preference. The jacket comes with me.
Winter 10/11: The jacket is very warm and does not breathe, but I hardly notice because it is a cold winter. It gets a big rip from a tree, but I patch it with duct tape. It is my first experience of northern Vermont skiing, and it is an epic year.
Summer 2011: I replace my boots (3 sizes to big) and my 140 carving skis with some powder boards (Yes, 140. Received as a present from someone who thought those “new shaped skis” were meant to be skied super short). Both boots and skis were on sale, and I can’t afford a new jacket.
Fall 2011: My friends beg me to get a new jacket, but I patch the hole with a piece of fabric I find laying around the house (See pics).
December 2011: Second day of the year, I emerge from some trees to realize that the pull of the zipper snagged on a tree and broke off (see pics). The clasp is also broken, so I can't replace the pull. The zipper has a problem with staying zipped, so for the rest of the year I have to remove my gloves in order to zip it up. As anyone form the northeast knows, the summit of Jay Peak (regularly -30 F windchill) is not a fun place to have exposed skin.
Winter 11/12: One of the warmest winter/springs on record, and with heavy insulation and a breathability rating of 2,000, the jacket makes me burn up and sweat like a racehorse almost every time I ski. On cold rain/snow days, the entire outside of the jacket becomes a sheet of ice. I realize how badly I need a shell jacket.
I get another rip towards the end of the season. Luckily during my last few days (before a back injury ended my season early) I was able to ski in a bathing suit so I didn't have to use this jacket. The jacket is now practically unwearable.
Broken zipper pull. The clasp is broken, so any replacement pull immediately falls off.
Patches with spare cotton fabric. You can see the marks where the duct tape was last year before the patch job.
This springs brand new rip.
Anything above 25/30 degrees and I feel like I'm skiing in a sauna. Even with just a baselayer on.
Sierra Trading Post, I am a college student who lives and breathes skiing. Please help me buy a new jacket so I retire this jacket to the recycling bin once and for all.

Thanks for the support, peeps =) I thought this contest was only for damage done this season. If this is not the case then, hey, STP, I could use a couple of new base layers as well =D

It wouldn't let me edit my old post for some reason. Sorry for double posting
This season was a very catastrophic one for my gear. Second day out on my new (to me) Salomon shoguns and I decide to ski vail pass with some friends. We had a great day leading up about 2:30. I decided to drop a rock adn as these skis were bought used they still had the crappy rental bindings on them. I drop the rock land slightly back seat and off pops my left ski... never to be found again. We looked for almost 2 hours and never found the ski. I was forced to ride back on the snow mobile carrying one ski
.
Next in line was my High Societies. They are a faithful ski I have had for four seasons and already had one traumatic event where the binding blew off of one, landing a jump. Well we were having a great park day when I landed a simple 360 and stopped to wait for my friends to jump. One of them crashes and loses some gear so I skate over to pick it up but have on odd feeling in one of my skis. I look down to see that one of them had snap clean in half. 2 ski fatalities so far.
Next weekend I am at winter park for a ski cross race I am riding a pair of atomic sx7 and we finish racing so I head over to the park to get a little jump practice in. After finishing up I get on the lift and look down to see I had busted off the end cap on my left ski. 3 casualties with 2 fatalities now.
Not to longer after I head to USCSA Nationals and having no complete pairs of freestyle/free ride skis I am forced to borrow a pair skis from my brother. Nationals start Monday and the week goes well until the slope style competition Friday. During my first run I land off the second jump where yet another pair of skis is added to the count. The heel piece on the binding breaks and while I attempt to fix it the brake fails to deploy and the ski runs into the pond at the bottom of the course. Not being my ski I am forced to go swimming for it. That water was freaking cold!
swimming for the ski
Rescued ski!
I manage to fix the binding well enough to compete in the pipe event where the ski lasts just long enough for me to complete my runs before breaking once and for all bringing the toll to 4 casualties with 3 pairs done for.
unfortunately the video of me swimming for my ski wouldn't upload so I was forced to use screen shots.
Sadly, I am not a judge. If I were, you would definitely have my vote!

Ok, you asked for it....
They used running stitches as the cut was so clean, I think about 25 different points.
The story behind it was that I borrowed some friends GS skis last summer in Portillo (hope this is still eligible), asked what boot sole he was, he said the same as me, but actually he was 6 mm or so bigger. After a few turns, I'm not sure whether I crashed or whether the ski prereleased, but I was sliding on my hip without my outside ski, put my inside ski into the snow, it then released and slid underneath me, slicing me to the bone. Crazy thing was I didn't feel it, Rogan skied down and pointed out that I had cut my pants, I literally punched my hip and said it was fine, skied down to lineup, then realised that blood was dripping into my boot! Going into shock on the way to the clinic, stopped at the ski school to say that 'I might be late for my lesson'.
Probably the best bit is that that night, I went to the first staff party of the season, took it easy for a bit, then thought it'd be ok to have a beer, after half a beer I promptly passed out, hitting my head on the way down. Woke up with everyone looking over me and ski patrol checking I wasn't concussed. So if you do have a lot of blood loss, and are on morphine and antibiotics, don't drink, even if your doctor says it's ok.

HOLY SHIT! Its like a fricken shark attack picture you see on TV! That is our winner, and I dare STP to post the images ![]()
Sorry Bump but I am sure you are happy you lost to that. Glad you are OK, Sharp is good. dull hurts. I used to work in a fish market and cut fish; the sharper the knife the less you feel it especially when you are cold. You could slice your fingers and not know it until you saw the blood.

IDK, I'd like to think I would have noticed the poor match, but who knows. If I swap skis with someone else I first ensure they are similar weight and ability. And, I always kick the snow all around with the edges to be sure that the ski isn't rattling around too loose or has too much forward pressure and blows out. Admittedly, I don't actually visually check the forward pressure arrow or screw either for a quick swap like that either. I'm glad you are OK. That was truly a freak accident resulting from a lapse in judgment were only a typical yard sale should have been the penalty. This is a very strong reminder to all to be sure your forward pressure is correct even if the boot looks like it fits on a quick glance.
This past season while skiing at Mt Norquay in Banff, I was spending some time in the park on a nice sunny day. With some good speed I was approaching one of the bigger tables. Once I got to the lip I noticed two small children sitting on the landing. With a split second to react I carved off the side of the jump which sent off in to the air and landed on the flat beside the jump. The funny part of the story is I don't actually remember any of this. I was told this 9 hours later as I suffered a moderate concussion and also suffered from amnesia. Luckily I was wearing a helmet and I was with my dad. I am fine now but took it real easy for the rest of the season and now I need to get myself a new helmet and not just any helmet, one that is really going to protect my melon. This money would definitely get me back on the hill with plenty of confidence. Thanks for reading, Bryant P.
