I am quoting myself because this is part of why it was so jarring to see tylrwnzl then say I'd quoted something only once.  There has been a very clear, running dialog focused on specific language that was quoted.  No one has yet said that my use of quotation marks was inappropriate.

A clear quote, well, is a quote.  Someone simply looking to blow smoke could again try to distort things, and say, well, 'You only used the built-in quote feature once, the rest of the time you used quotation marks...' but that would be just another attempt at distortion.

I didn't want to keep belaboring the point, but it seems others keep returning to it, with yet more distortions of the clear language that had been used earlier in the thread.

Take your own advice -- I was more than happy to let it rest, but each time I think it's put to bed, there's yet another post making very odd, clearly inaccurate claims.  Even as distortion and misdirection goes, trying to, say, baldly deny that I'd quoted something that I clearly had is pretty rich.  I appreciate that part of this may be socially driven, trying to cover up an oopser for a bro, but trying to do it in broad daylight rather than just moving on is a bit much.

I don't know if that is the case! However, I suprised the field this morning by winning the Mother's Day 5k while pushing a jog stroller biggrin.gif!!!!

While not quite as proud as seeing my daughter be handed the first place award, one of my athletes took 56 seconds off her 5K PR on a slow, hot, non shaded course.

Perhaps there just may be something to those O lifts, plyos & kettlebells....rolleyes.gif

Congrats iriopnsow!!!  Played in a soccer tournment yesterday, 4 games (unlike you, didn't win it).  Not sure what's worse today, the soreness or the sunburns :).

Sweet! I'm sure we will have our share of sunburns here too. Vermonters are quite pasty this time of year & the sun was roasting!

4 games is impressive!

Played a pickup game of 9 v 9 soccer this afternoon for about 2 hours. Regrettably had McDonald's for lunch and feeling like puking right now, but definitely a good workout. Plus my team did win 7-6.

Ok, my week wasn't too bad.  12:30 of training time, with 10:45 on the bike (185 miles, 11,000 feet of climbing).  I had two pretty good long rides.  Yesterday, I had intended to start from Boulder to get more climbing, but I managed to leave my helmet and (more importantly) my long-fingered gloves at home.  So home I went and rode from there.  I set new season bests for 60 minute and 90 minute power.  Today, I remembered everything but my heart rate strap, which I really don't need given that I train with a power meter, and rode up Lefthand Canyon and over the top on the Peak to Peak Highway returning down 7 into Lyons.  I bested my 60 minute and 90 minute power numbers from yesterday even though I was fatigued from that ride.

This week will be a bit more challenging as I move from a 1-1.5 hour ride on Friday to a 2-3 hour ride and my shorter weekend ride steps up from 3-4 hours to 5+ hours.  Fortunately, the week following is Rest Week, which I'm looking forward to!

thanks...sometimes it feels like hard work - other time lots of fun.  As I get in better shape, the fun increases.

How useful do you find your power meter?

John

I find my power meter to be a useful tool.  It definitely lets me know when I'm working and when I'm slacking off.  It provides a real map of the load of my training rides which you simply can't get from monitoring things like heart rate (although monitoring heart rate is better than nothing).  I'm also data driven, so it is another motivator for my training.

The other important use is to limit your effort.  When doing a big event, like the double triple this summer, I'll make sure to limit my power to avoid burning too many matches and find myself in a hole on the second day.

You're going to laugh but I get a lot of exercise playing golf.  I alternate between carrying the bag and pushing a three wheeled cart.  I play fast as long as I'm not held up.  New England courses can be fairly hilly.

Yesterday I played Brattleboro Country Club in 2 hours and 20 minutes playing through three groups.  I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath.  Shot an 11 over 82.  Going at a more sedate pace might have given me a sub-80 round but I like to move things along.  My record is 1 hr 58 minutes shooting a 77.

Shooting my age is a goal but a long way off I'm afraid.  I'm only 65.

At that pace you're probably burning 550-700ish calories per hour -- pretty darn good workout.  It's actually not that different from a lot of the aerobic base work done by the USST as ski racing prep.  An 1:58 walking and carding a 77 is really impressive, I imagine you may have gotten to the point where talking was a bit hard a couple times in that round.

That particular round was ten years ago but my fellow competitor that day was a 75 year old who moved along at the same pace and shot in the mid 80s.  His name was Vic Daley and he died a few years ago.   An avid skier, Vic would fund his summer golf by selling balls he found to driving ranges.  We had to do institute the "Vic Daley Rule".  Vic couldn't retrieve lost balls until they had stopped rolling.....

I agree on the P90X.  Best workout I've ever done (especially the ab workout, killer!).  Believe me, it will get you in shape.  I mix it up with mountain/road biking and running.  It's all about muscle confusion.  Getting ready to start my 90 day program tomorrow!

Played volleyball for about three hours yesterday. Banged my left knee up a bit dropping for a ball of the net and drove me knee cap into the ground.

My week was a bit short.  Tuesday, I was supposed to do threshold blocks, but I was so fatigued from the weekend my body wouldn't open up.  So I did a recovery ride instead.  My Friday ride was increased from 1-1.5 hours to 2-3 hours.  I rode a 50 mile loop with 2000 feet of climbing in 2:27.  Saturday, I was supposed to ride a 5+ hour ride, but my spouse and I wanted to go see the rebroadcast of Gotterdamerung which started at noon.  So, I was on the bike by 6:30, yet only got 3:30 in and about 64 miles (4,000 ft of climbing).  Yesterday, I rode Juniper pass both ways, about 7,000 feet of climbing.  It was only 64 miles, but I was fatigued and rode it in 5:20.  So, last week of the block, thank goodness this week is rest week.

I shoveled tons of mulch around my yard both days this weekend.  My wife thinks this is a healthy form of exercise.  I think it is back breaking menial labor taking years off my life.   The only positive - it's romantic to her.biggrin.gif

Yard work can be an excellent, albeit unstructured, workout.  I'm doing some rock work in the back yard - digging, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, (pinching fingers smile.gif)etc. Gets the muscles working hard

Yeah, yardwork can be great.    Leafblowers are kind of a mystery to me because of that.

Got in a good dirtbike trailride and a good pumptrack session on the bike.

A brisk bird//elk recon that basically equated to some steep speed hiking and boulder and log hopping.  I figure a decent equivalent to fast golf in terms of aerobic work, actually.

http://tahoequarterly.com/2012/01/daron-rahlves-gets-you-pumped-for-ski-season/ A fun link -- a lot of current and former USST members will do summer meadow-skipping aka speed hiking among other things as part of their summer  work.  The discussion of aerobic base work, including mellow MTB epics and other types of spinning, is also worth checking out.

Saturday-- Went to a picnic and played softball for a few hours. Nothing too intense other than the heat. Then played volleyball for about an hour and an hour of indoor soccer on an improvised court (lots of running).

Sunday--Played a few hours 3 on 3 sand court volleyball.

Monday-- Four hours of half court basketball (thoroughly exhausting in the heat)

Also Sunday-Monday was on no sleep as my friends and I pulled an all nighter Sunday night.

A couple skatepark sessions, some more hiking, some swimming and tonight some rollerskiing.

Are we going to wait 'til June for a Summer Activity thread?

22 mile skate @ 13 avg (not good, feeling the heat and Sunday's skate)

2K free

500 flutter kick

500 snap kick

500 breast
