I just did a count in my head and it's 19 pair consisting of 9 pair FIS slaloms, 8 pair FIS GS, 1 pair non-FIS GS, and 1 pair fatties (94mm, which seem like water skis to me, and feel like I'm wallowing down the road in a motor home compared to my 'real' skis). I've probably missed a few in there, somewhere too.

Haven't counted in a while, between 25-30. But I'm poor and never buy the current years model, always 3-4 years old and on a big discount. I ski on about 7 of them.
I have 6 pairs: 1pr. Volant Super 1 - 198cm (1998 model). 3 pairs Volant Power Karves all 193cm (1997 & 1999 models). 1pr. Dynastar Intuitiv 74 - 188cm (2002/03 model). 1pr. K2 Axis XP- 174cm (2003 model).
I don't feel, well, so hoardish, reading some of these. My current quiver, including a coupla recent post-seasons, and many others of which saw no use this year because of World's Worst Snow Season:
Rossi WC 9S Sl
Rossi WC Radical GS
Blizzard G-Power
Stockli CX
Kastle RX12
Elan Apex
Kastle MX88
Kastle FX94
Kastle BMX98
Blizzard The One
Elan Olympus Mons
DPS W112RP
Rossi S7
Several of these have gotta go in the early fall, obviously.
To make room for new stuff, obviously.
Well, OK, OK, the gross number needs to be halved.
And I'm rethinking things, with an eye to dealing with more variability, crappy snow...
Too many, according to my girlfriend, who has a few pairs herself but almost always defaults to some old, beat up Head Monsters. And rips all over the mountain on them! ;-)
But it's fun to experiment with different kinds of skis, (especially when you score em for cheap! ;-), and as I've gotten into it all over the past couple years I've come to develop some real empathy for women and their thing for shoes. Never could understand it before. Now I kinda do.

Only my active quiver:
There's another dozen that I've retired for this season, but could be skied (including my quiver of Volants, older Stocklis, and a pile of Elans).
I have 6:
Atomic GSX race (older used a lot)
Atomic GS 12 pb (older but hardly used yet)
Elan Jr. GS race
Dynastar Omeglass SL (older but still works)
Dynastar Exclusive Legend (old enough that it used to be called a mid-fat at 75mm)
Kastle FX 94
I'll have to give some thought before adding or I may need a color coded data base for them.
Zero. I rent. My ski trips require a 7 hour flight followed by several hours more of trains and buses. Not practical to lug skis with me. I do have my own boots.
OUCH! Just did an inventory check!
Time for another closet clearance sale to get back to manageable proportions This season I have been doing quite a bit of experimenting with race skis and refining what works best for me. Has resulted in some findings that have surprised me such as finding the 27m GS skis actually work for me and that i now prefer a 165 Sl to a 155.. As a result need to clear a few and still on the hunt for a couple of additions ( a 205 SG for example). So for anyone looking for good used race skis, here is early notice of what will be coming to gear swap!
Also, I have skied all but 4 of them and will close that gap as I get the DH skis out next week)

Touche'

I've only used two pairs in recent years. One is of the nordic downhill type and the other is a backcountry touring ski. Why? The first for skiing lift served hills, the second for hills that are not served by lifts.
I also snowboard sometimes, so can I say 2 1/2 pairs?
The snowboard is big mountain type (169cm) but I use it only on small mountains.
Nordic downhill. The extra range of vertical motion freeheel bindings provide is a great asset in moguls.

Ski Racer,
I see you are getting non D2 SLs for the coming year and have both currently. What are the performance differences? (sorry for the minor thread hijack)
I like Hijacks!![]()
Um...the D2 SLs are great skis, I just got a deal on a pair of non-D2s and X-16 bindings back in early Feb so I snapped 'em up. The D2 SLs are really good skis, but being a fairly short ski, it's like the front of the ski bends almost a little too easily. The non-D2s are really beefy and you need to really pressure the front to get the turn started...but I think they carve a cleaner arc, stay in the fall line a little better, and have more energy and less skittishness in the transition. The D2s are now kind of my every day driver. So...why am I getting so many SL and GS skis? Well, next year, I can still get what I want, the year after, given what the FIS is doing to the GS regs, no way of telling, so I'm stocking up. I also got a pair of 158 non-D2 SLs. I'm fairly big...not tall, but big...and I don't have any reason to think I need to go shorter than 165. But one of the guys who is the fastest in my class is now skiing on a 158, so I thought I'd try a pair...
I always watched with amazement. Thinking it's too hard on the knees.
