Blizzard Magnum 7.6 vs Viva 7.6 question

I have all mountain and powder skis, but need a replacement for my older and now cracked Blizzard Viva 7.6.

I'm 5'8", 117 lbs, expert female skier, ski 50+ days in a season now looking for a great edge hold, quick, carving ski for hardpack, not too stiff in bumps. So, I've just demoed 2012 Blizzard Viva 7.6 (163 cm) and they still had great edge hold on morning ugly, frozen hardpack in Vail, still fun skis, but they were very light (in weight). Almost too light? Now I'm wondering if perhaps men's Magnum 7.6 might be a better ski for me.

I saw 2011 new Magnums at a great price, but no demo.

Does anybody know if Magnum is substantially stiffer and/or heavier than Viva, or just a little?

Thanks

I am 5'5" and 115 pounds and demoed both skis this year. I did not care for the viva 7.6 and the magnum was stiffer but not too stiff. I like it a lot but on steeper terrain I had to put lots of pressure on the tips otherwise they would be hard to control. I eventually demoed the viva 8.1 and fell in love. You should try that ski. Stiffer and very smooth. By the way I demoed both viva in 158 and the magnum in 163 I think.

Thanks AnneL,

I actually demoed Viva 8.1 in 165, but I think that there was something wrong with that particular pair (bad tune or no tune?). They didn't have very good edge grip and were pulling me to the right. Do you remember if stiffness of Magnum was similar to Viva 8.1?

I am trying to remember. I would say that they are about the same in the 2012 models. But I think that the viva 2010 is stiffer. Have you tried the Fischer Watea or the Atomic Nomads?

I've only tried one Fischer Koa and they were OK, not special. I'm looking for mid 70s waist. Still thinking about that '11 Magnum 7.6, but I'm a bit afraid it would be too stiff in bumps.

How about the Dynastars skis? They tend to be soft and do well in the bumps. I have heard good things about the Idylls (78 waist)

Actually, I was thinking about Idylls. I'll try to find them to demo. Thanks
