I spent last week in skiing with friends in Utah and a buddy took a bunch of pictures while we were there.

We stayed in a house in Eden, Utah with this view to enjoy...

It was suppose to be cloudy so my buddy didn't drag along his SLR and we only had his crackberry to work with.

Tuesday we ventured over to Snowbasin and were rewarded with a fair amount of leftovers from the weekend's storm.

I wish I could convince my wife to move there.  I really like that area and the cost of living doesn't seem to be much more than what it is in Ohio if any at all.

After lunch we headed to the top of the Mt. Allen Tram to take in the views and ski from the start of the Olympic downhill.  The views from the top are truly spectacular.

After a long day of hard skiing we decided to soak up a little sun before heading home...

We spent Wednesday at Pow Mow and I learned a valuable lesson...don't leave the Wailers at home.  They are a fantastic, well rounded ski and even 3 days after a storm there was untracked to be found in the trees.

I see a lot of fresh snow, blue sky, and smiling faces.  Nice timing!  We ought to start a thread with pictures from all the interesting places these ballcaps are popping up.

Pretty good timing for the beginning of that week.  I know it got really warm by the end; how difficult did the skiing get by then?

We called it quits around 1:00 on Friday.  The bottom 1/3 of Snowbasin got really sticky and my knee was starting to bother me.  I decided it was best to walk on to the plane Saturday instead of being wheeled on.

Glad to see your timing with the trip coincided with very good conditions. Enjoyed the pictures. When I was at Snowbasin last (early 80's!) the base consisted of trailers. I was back to Utah two years ago now, but didn't get back to Snowbasin unfortunately.

Like to hear that when avid skiers from the east and midwest head west that the their time, money, and ski stoke is rewarded with great skiing.

I just came back from Vail and had a good time, but in my 30 years of going there, I'd have to say this last trip out represented the poorest conditions I eve experienced there.

Where do I get an Epic Cap?

While we were at Snowbasin we were talking about what the place looked like before the Olympics.  I figured it was closer to Pow Mow than Deer Valley.  biggrin.gif

I think the only think keeping Snowbasin from being one of the top destinations in Utah is its lack of development at the base, particularly lodging but I won't complain.

Anyone have any pictures of "old" Snowbasin?

I skied Snowbasin last March and was very pleased.  It was a warm sunny day and I just spent my time lazing on the groomers.  I didn't think the lack of development at the base was an issue, more to the fact, I considered it a virtue.  I think the that on-slope developments were very nicely done and pricing was quite reasonable, given the mountain you got for the $.   I would love to go again!

You were very unlucky.  Vail had its driest March in the 41 years I have data there, and the base was already subpar from the dry early season.  Vail is only half open now, which is going to be tough for the big crowds they get Easter Week.

I totally agree. The lack of development is what I like most about Snowbasin and Pow Mow. I also like how Pow Mow seems to have embraced the fact that it is the best kept secret of the locals.

While I was out there I heard talk that Snowbasin was up for sale. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

Actually, it's PowMow that's up for sale, and there was a pretty good chance that it had been sold.  From what I read, it sounded like a potential good steward of the place - one that wouldn't necessarily pursue the rampant development plan that got the valley up in arms.

Never say never, of course, but I think that the Holdings have too much of their heart and soul in Snowbasin now, especially with the 50-year plan moving forward.

Double post, sorry.

One guy we road up with in the gondola at Snowbasin said that Pow Mow had been sold recently. I noticed the lack of "Say no to Powder Mountain Town" signs in Eden this year which seemed to go along with that.

AFAIK, the Pow Mow thing is not a done deal, but quite likely.  Wolf Creek is also on the market.  As for Snowbasin...  "Everything has a price wink.gif ."
