Quick trip to Summit County - This Thurs - Sun

Thread Starter

I know it is late and a weak snow year .... but a free flight & car are helping this to be more palatable.

I fly into Denver on Thurs at 9am and will head out to Frisco (my planned base of operations)   I have mainly skied Utah / Banff and NY  -- this is my first trip to CO.

Advanced Intermediate -- 2 guys sharing a room -- skiing half day thurs and then all day--- fri / sat & sunday -

Looking for suggestions on which mountains in that area  to go to-- considering the "snow" and temps forecasted ??

Also any restaurant suggestions -- looking for good food (where the locals eat)

THANKS -- I know this is not a prime time / year  but will make the best of it :)

----------------

also thinking of staying at the snowshoe motel??

I don't know the current conditions, but if you are on a budget, look at ABasin.  I did a great deal on Liftopia a few years ago for there.  If the Montezuma Bowl is not open, may not though.

They had a wind event yesterday and it dropped dust onto the snowpack?  Can you fly anywhere else?

Well, at least it won't be crowded!

Don't make any reservations. Drive up Thursday ,ski Loveland and then make the call?

You might be able to rent bikes in Fruita?

I will make the best of whatever I find.... was just trying to figure which mountains to hit in the vicinity of Frisco... and also was interested in some restaurant suggestions ...

Spring skiing can be fun.... as long as you are not seeking powder on that trip

I like Vinny`s in Frisco- if you sit at the bar side, you can pick from the less expensive bar menu or the dining room menu.  The Arapahoe Cafe in Dillon is popular with some local Bears for burgers, bbq, etc.

If you want to maximize skiing, I think they still have night skiing open at Keystone, which skied decently today, all things considered.  Could hit there Thursday.  I haven`t been to Copper, A-Basin or Loveland yet this season, but those are possibilities along with Breck which had some decent concerts last weekend and should be doing the same this weekend.  A bit further up the road is Vail, which still has a lot of terrain open, but I actually thought their grooming was more selective and not as good as KS which hasn`t gotten as much snow, but is a bit higher at the base.

The wind yesterday actually helped cool things a bit and didn`t seem to drop a lot of dust from what I could tell- of course, a lot of the snow was already dirty from bare spots, so maybe I just didn`t notice.

This is my favorite suggestion of the season. At Fruita you'd might as well hit Moab.

Just hang out in Breck. It's like 5 blocks so find a deck with beer?
