WB -March 25-30

OK, so the plan was to go to SLC for this trip, but after watching the weather conditions, talking to friends / family in the area, and thinking about it a little bit, it seemed to be a waste to go back to SLC this season. Where's the SLC "you live in FL" haters now eh? biggrin.gif. Enjoying your "late season?".

So, what to do, what to do? OK, I'll go back to WB, that's been getting dumped on since I left about 2 weeks ago. So OK, nice scenery on the flight on the way in:

So, what was today like? Well, after the dumps there's been some warm weather that's now turned a little cooler, so it's sort-of like very good north-least conditions. A bit hard, but edgeable. The weather - freaking bluebird:

bluebird.jpg

Had some friends out today to go ripping around the hill since the weather was so awesome. Here's one at the top of the Peak with Black Tusk in the background.

So the weather forecast - tomorrow will cloud up and "heavy snow" on Tuesday - Yippee!

Sooooooo,

yesterday was OK, (in fact Blackcomb was awful scratchy), but took the P2P over to Whistler which was a lot better. The snow started last night, and this is what all day today looked like:

IMG_1675.JPG

Snow is supposed to become HEAVY through the weekend biggrin.gif

The sun made a semi-appearance at times, and made for some interesting lighting:

IMG_1678.JPG

Apparently there were those who didn't get the "NO GAPERS" memo that was so widely distributed:

IMG_1665.JPG

So tomorrow (and the weekend) should be off-the-hook. Standby for more.

Hehe.

Check out this slowblader from Sierra-at-Tahoe Sunday:

He had a soundsystem strapped to his chest playing white noise at full blast!  I'm cruising down a green, look behind me to see what the heck is up and see him lurking in the trees.  Freaky.

Yup, AC30 (at Whistler - go figure). I like the gaiters and the rear entry's. Perfect

Matching gloves and accents on jacket; matching gaiters and dark blue chest accents... even more perfect!

So last night a friend says - "hey, I've got first tracks passes I haven't used - want one?" Umm, let me think, umm, yes, in fact, I'd love one.

This is what 7am looked like at the base:

IMG_1682.JPG

and like this:

IMG_1683.JPG

Even better, at the top of the Whistler Gonjola, it looked like this:

IMG_1685.JPG

After our breakfast at the Roundhouse, with the bell being rung at 8:05, we went to get the goods, here's one friend:

IMG_1703.JPG

Here's another:

IMG_1696.1.jpg

In fact, plenty of freshies to go around -

IMG_1692.2.jpg

It's not supposed to stop snowing until Friday, and the alpine (Peak and Symphony) didn't open today due to Avy. While the pow is PNW heavy stuff and not UT blower, it's still plenty deep and I'll take it. Looking at the potential for another First Tracks on Friday.

Super nice!

For the record: maritime snow > all other snow

Glad you got that!

G'day snofun3.

Wheels up from Toronto at 07h00 tomorrow. Brief side-trip to North Van for brunch then back to YVR and taking the shuttle to Whistler. Looking forward to Sunday.

I'll keep eyes peeled for your report from today. Looking like a decent amount of snow to keep things fresh. is the Alpine open today? I'm now wondering if I should head straight up Blackcomb and make for 7th heaven/Glacier/Jersey Cream chair or stick to Whistler. I'm hoping the Alpine won't be open until Sunday - selfish i know!

Have a good one!!

OK, here's the scoop -

Started out this morning going up Blackcomb, and suddenly the sun came out:

IMG_1764.JPG

Drat! I have my aframes with HI yellow - am I going to fry my eyes? Well, we'll see, but anyway, up to Jersey Cream then over to 7th Heaven. How was that? Well, this is what it looked like on the road over to the lift:

IMG_1783.JPG

IMG_1793.JPG

So, we got over to 7th - what did it look like? - it looked like this:

IMG_1810.JPG

IMG_1813.JPG

And this (note the P2P in the background)

IMG_1818.JPG

So, after a run, my bud gets a call from a reliable source that the Peak Chair is about to open, as well as Harmony and Symphony (sorry - alpine opened today). So, we did the obvious thing and made straight for the P2P.  We just happened to arrive when a silver gondola arrived, which are the ones with the glass floor, which is obviously the best way to see the ground 1475 feet below us:

Just starting out:

IMG_1825.JPG

and mid trip (if you don't like heights, don't look down):

IMG_1827.JPG

So, we get over to Whistler, and my bud takes off to Peak, and I go to Harmony, as I love the McConkey's area.

IMG_1835.JPG

McConkey's was already getting some attention when I arrived:

IMG_1836.jpg

Then Symphony opened up - YIPPEE!

First, in the liftline it was immediately apparent that an Alpinezone member had made it out from the usual 600 vertical of gnar, and inexplicably found their way to WB (note helmet palm of guy in yellow):

IMG_1841.1.jpg

So, out to Rhapsody Bowl, which was outstanding since Symphony hadn't been open for a couple of days:

IMG_1859.JPG

Yes, it was deep:

IMG_1861.JPG

IMG_1886.JPG

There was also many people hiking up to Flute Bowl:

IMG_1896.JPG

Looking to get some gnar:

IMG_1873.JPG

So, finally I got a week right - not just before or just after. Figuring to be back in a couple of weeks, which may end up being the end of my season.

Wow, what a fantastic Trip report!

So glad you got some goods!

Hey, that's in my backyard!  I cruise those islands regularly.  Bottom left, Matia Is., horseshoe shaped one is Sucia, the little one in the middle is Patos, all in the US.  At the top is the Gulf Islands in B.C., Saturna in the foreground and N. and S. Pender behind.  Cool pic.!   You must have been right over my house.

Thank you for noticing. Yes, I stood there looking like a mouth breather seeing this guy with his helmet on backwards and his tunes playing (see the cord?). The face palm by the guy behind him is just simply so perfect.

IMO single most amazing pic ever posted on a ski forum that I have seen.

Absolute classic, well done snofun!
