Hi I am new to this forum and I was wondering when rocker was invented?

I saw some rocker skis by Werntz mentioned in a 1966 Skiing magazine.  It had a patent, it looks like a modern early rise setup.

Rocker was likely invented 1000 years ago by some Native American tribe in what is now Canada or Alaska that figured out that their kayaks or canoes floated through choppy water better with a little rocker.  So the future of skiing was found in the past.

That is a lot earlier than I would have guessed. I would have guessed around the time when free skiing was invented.

Hi - Suggest a search, several threads on this. Short version is that both McConkey and Drake have been cited for the first rocker ski, both from skiing on bent up metal fat skis around 1998-1999. McConkey on Chubbs, Drake on Powder Pluses. McConkey and Turner got Volant to develop the Spatula, which was seriously revolutionary, in about 2001 or 2002, I think. Drake started DB skis, later DPS, and developed the Tabla Rasa, also revolutionary in different ways, about 2002. Neither group seems to have been aware of the other initially. Tabla Rasa is still around as DPS Lotus 120, Spat and Volant are gone but a few other reverse-reverse's around. Keep in mind that setting aside the pictures above, surf boards and boat hulls have been rockered for a lot longer than skis. And rocker can mean everything from "big curve in front" to "complete curve from front to back."

So you call it.
