I'm a long-time lurker and infrequent poster here at epicski. I'm also a software architect in NYC and winterer in Summit County, primarily skiing Copper Mountain.
Today I'm launching a new website I've created this winter -- developed and tested at Copper:
Snowmeo is a real-time, curated view of pictures taken at ski/snowboard mountains. I got bored with the static locations of web cams on mountains and had a Eureka! moment when I realized people were taking pictures all over the mountain and sharing them. I've started with Instagram and will be adding other image providers from there.
I'm also starting with a limited selection of mountains during the beta testing -- Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain. This is primarily because I'm doing all the curation myself at this point. I will be automating the system over the summer and plan to launch with all U.S. mountains next season.
If you're at one of these mountains and have an iPhone, all you have to do is take a picture with Instagram while there and enable the geotagged location when you post and it will be considered for inclusion. If you're not that technically savvy, you can just enjoy the pictures!
I have a long list of features to add already, but would welcome any feedback from all of you. This is my favorite online ski & snowboard community.
It's a gorgeous, sunny spring and the pictures come constantly during the weekend, so this should be a good weekend for armchair skiing/riding or checking out the conditions before heading out to the mountain (protip: it's hot).
I've really enjoyed looking at pictures that people have been posting over the last few months while I've been working on this in my free time. I hope you all will as well.
