What size SG skis?

My 15 year old daughter is a J3/K2 (1997 born) and is 5'3/160cm and weights 97pounds/44kg. She is quite inexperienced and not very agressive and has never skied on super g skis before. I have been told to buy 175cm based on her weight but she seems to think this is too small as most of her friends are on 185cm. Would you buy 175 or 185?

Thanks for any help

I wouldn't buy her SG skis. I would get her some 175-180cm GS ski. Basically the skis she will be skiing GS on next season. It's hard to be fast or make good turns on SG skis unless you have spent quite a bit of time on them.

What size GS skis is she currently on? Is she spending  more time skiing GS or Slalom? If she is skiing more Slalom than GS, that pushes her more toward the a Long GS ski than a SG.

What does her coach recommend?

Skiing SG skis are quite different then skiing on a GS ski in a SG course.

Gs skis due to the tighter turn radius and stiffer tipflex pattern are somewhat more dangerous at Sg speed then a SG ski.

For example a 174 non-FIS Atomic D2 Gs in a 174 only has a about 17m radius. I would be hardpressed to send my J3 out onto a Super G course on a 17m ski.

No time like the present to learn to ski a speed ski and the Junior Sg's give the smaller kids an opportunity to get accustomed to a speed ski.

Sorry forgot to say shes is on 144 slalom and 165 GS, in uk races K2/J3 have to ski on suger g skis for super g(27m radius) so GS skis wouldnt work.

Is the D2 not too stiff for less strong racers? Her SL and GS skis are atomics and she loves them, would 175 be to small?

The D2 will not make the ski stiffer. Actually I have found the tip on the D2 (GS ski) is more flexible allowing an easier turn initiation  (particulalry going to be true on a speed ski) and then the as you add pressure the ski progressively stiffens to your input. Very damp and amazing edge hold. Also fantastic factory tune of 1/3.

Hard to say on length  Talk to your coach. 175 or 185.

Plus keep in mind this is a Junior ski, so it is designed for that age group.
