Just saw these things in an exercise magazine...

Anybody ever ride one?

I saw a lady on one of those last summer.

What are the benefits?  (other than marching to your own drummer?)

Hard to see how it could be superior to a regular bicycle experience. And I imagine not being able to sit and coast at some points of a ride has got to be a drag.

Still, it is a weird curiosity, and I would love to hop on one just for the experience.

Kinda like the Anton Gliders I saw at a small area ski shop yesterday.   ;-)

I didn't take note - guess based on what I'd read previously I just assumed I would never be able to afford a pair. But if you really would like to know this is the place where I saw em...

http://www.californiaskicompany.com

They did have a nice selection of skis on the floor, (Fischer, Stockli, etc), and I enjoyed fondling many of them, none so much as a 2009 Head Monster iM88. That is one really nice looking, solid feeling ski.

BTW ... ALENAX?? WTF! ;-)

Credit to the inventor, it /did/ feel like being on a Stairmaster.     Including the clunk clunk of the chain shift.       Oddest ride ever, odder than a Trikke - at least Trikke doesn't give you a saddle to confuse things.    Imagine stroking (can't really call it pedaling)  verrrry slowly (50-60 rpm) and trying to /steer/ the "Stairmaster".      Garh.

We sell these at my shop...they're pretty fun to ride as a novelty.  They're really designed as a low-impact alternative to runners than something aimed at cyclists.
