St. Anton, Austria. Amazing!

Was planning to go to the Gathering, but was offered the oportunity to ski St. Anton instead.  Checked the snow report...500+ cm at the base.  OK!  Just amazing.  Mostly challenging off piste skiing.  You wear avalanche beacons and shovels at all times (and needed, too; saw several avalanches during the trip.  Two hundred km of skiing and you just can't do avalanche control in an area that big).  Hired a guide who knew all the places with the best skiing.  If you like off piste and you can only go to Europe once, go here!

Spectacular mountains.

For freeriding it's one of the best places the alps have to offer.

I would say let's plan the next gathering here! (after the one in Montana).

Yup, amazing area.  IMHO up there with Val D'Isere/Tignes as one of the top areas in the world

Great shots!

I was there 3-4 years ago, and look forward to going back soon.

certainly agree here...

Val is my favourite over here but St Anton is impressive... Zermatt after being there a couple weeks back although smaller is up there too...

You'll get my vote. Looks like a magnificent place. Glad that you got to enjoy it.

I've been lobbying for that myself.

Count me in. Who knows, I might even try to organize a Euro gathering myself next season (my schedule was too unpredictable this season).

BTW, any time you see Prickly or me telling people to go to St. Anton, just remember this thread.

They have pretty good skiing at St Anton.

Was there last year. I think the base was about 50 cm. Your pics look much better than my pics of lots of brown bits and bare spots...I guess I will have to go back when they have a 500 cm base! Oh, and the beer is pretty good too.

A Euro Gathering.  Hmmm.  Sounds good!
