Have you seen this yet? Peak Video Productions to film 2013 EpicSki Gathering at Big Sky!

Please click through to the video links to see the quality of ski films these folks produce for the TV series. Obviously, we love the idea of showing EpicSki's AWESOME gathering on TV and getting  this INCREDIBLE community some well-deserved recognition, and we hope everyone embraces the idea too, because now we look like a group that someone might want drinking their BEER, right, Kevin?

There are long lift lines:

IMG_0773.JPG

The weather is terrible:

And there is no snow:

[all from the week beginning Mach 31, 2012]

But as with all things YMMV

What's the name of that lift and that big wide trail above it in the photo?

I remember that area. The  trail is very wide and has a good pitch on it.   I think it's that one above but maybe an even wider one to the left out of photo. It feels like you've suddenly found yourself on a massive downhill course without the ice. It's a great trail. If you like to go mach schnell, that's the place.  ("Ice" at Big Sky is usually pretty soft if there is any. Honestly, I don't remember any, but we were always there with good snow - in....uh...late March)

That area slightly to the right is usually kept au naturelle. I remember Mermeer thrashing us in there with cut up powder and crud for many laps. We had to do it over and over...with no rest at the bottom cause there were no lines. Such a hardship.

The lift is Thunderwolf. The run on the right is Elk Park Ridge. Thunderwolf is a little over 1,700 vertical feet. During the first Big Sky ESA the upper groups would warm up on Elk Park Ridge trying to keep up with Ursala. There were some pretty spectacular yardsales at the bottom from the combination of legs not used to skiing that many vertical feet non-stop and the steep stretch at the bottom of the run.

The area to the left (skier's right) of Elk Park Ridge is Elk Park Meadow, a wide open area that tempts skiers to ski faster than they should on powder days.....I've had some long tumbling crashes on that run, fortunately in deep soft snow.

Lol, Rio. I was actually about to post that exact same joke.

And here's a bit of a revision of a link posted earlier

A Bear's Big Sky Bucket List:

1- Tram (obviously)

2- Follow Rio somewhere that you totally thought you knew and find awesome terrain hidden in plain sight.

3- Little Bear
4- Duck Flying Togs

5- Liberty Bowl in 4 Feet of Fresh

6- Vertigo on the Dictators

7- Beat Tog in Foosball

8- Get an expert Pole Fitting

9 - Ski-In Lunch at the Cabin

10- Mountain Girl's Pipe Playing.

/inside jokes.

EpicSki is sponsoring the Pole Calibration clinic -- it's such important information we consider it a PSA.

Will the pole calibration be weighted or unweighted ?

That's nonsense, sir. Calibration is calibration.

Does it require Kramelet bindings?

Been icing the knee and reading all 10 pages.

Someone asked about ages of participants.  Any old people.  Yes, went to JH Gathering with 2 buds from No. Idaho and all over 65.  Big Sky was on my Bucket List so went a few years ago to ESA and had a great time.  Loved the Mt., lack of crowds and the powder.  There is a 99.9% chance I will be there MARCH 2013.  Although I don't know if my ski buds will come, will have maybe a chance to help someone out with transportation and hauling gear. Too early to commit.

However I can commit to guiiding at Silver Mt. or Lookout for anyone passing through while headed to Big Sky.

Thanks Nolo for all the work and anything you decide is ok with me.  Just remember folks there is NO Way you can please everyone.

Nolo I am also volunteering to help out anyway I can - let me know.

Looking forward to seeing old Epic friends and also meeting and skiing with some new Bears.

david.JPG  And,  BYE THE WAY this pic as taken at Big Sky the last day of March, notice the meager snow fall on the trees.   Pic. of Squatty coach of ill repute skiing the trees.

dav.JPG  Another pic of mild snow fall.  Don't they ever groom these tree runs - damn.

Looking forward to Bridger Too.

All I can add to this is; I unilaterally decided to show up in Tahoe with Heidi and our son,Chris. I only met Phil-once in okemo......Phil is a friend of an acquaintance and so on and so on.

Initially, I believe we were all anxious about attending a gathering, especially as newbies to epic. we were unsure of how often we'd hang with the group
and we had contingencies in place, which were completely unnecessary.

if anyone is leery about attending this gathering due to their ski skill set, weather stats or their anxiety about being a newbie; cast those emotions aside.
As my dad used to say when I was hungry or angry- whatever, " it's only a feeling, it will go away".

We were overwhelmed by the hospitality and the altruism of a great group of people......... We were fortunate for the puking snow, but, some of the best times were just hanging and chatting............ This is why we attended the east coast gathering as well............

No matter what - el nino or la nina or the gonzo mathematical statistics of past weather patterns calculate, the Fox family will attend, unless of course, Tricia has another incident:)

Plus we didn't get to ski with Finn.......

Those months we spent in Cell Block 9 rocked my works and help me differentiate what should and shouldn't be done. Say "Hi" to the boys and tell them I am looking forward to the reunion in 8-10 years (with good behavior).

I think I have to come. I heard that Montana looks like this every single day. It must be true, right?

Maybe you can enlighten me/us about #10? First image in my mind of some kind of wood nymph with pan pipes. Hopefully not a female version of a satyr...

Close -- i had a photo, but I was told that I'd be killed if it was shared online. Imagine the wood nymph, in a ski lodge, with a pirate hat, and the panpipes look like a toucan.
