Jackson Hole/Grand Targhee Question

Hi all,

I'm lucky enough to be going to JHMR for the first time in a couple of weeks.  We have 5 days there, is it worth giving up one to take the bus over to Grand Targhee?  It looks nice (over the internet) and seems to be getting good snow.  I'll be with my son, 11, he's a good enough skier to get down average blacks, groomed or un-groomed.  We've skied at Alta/SB this year and last.  We generally like the idea of exploring rather than lapping the same runs.  I can't imagine I'd be disappointed with Grand Targhee, but I'm looking for opinions anyway.

Thanks.

Targhee is definitely worth a day out of the five you will be there.  It is a fun hill with a nice vibe and usually is slightly favored in the snow department (although often not enough to matter). Powder used to last longer there as well although I am not sure that is still the case.

Thanks SB77.  I guess I can't really go wrong here, both great places.

Yes, definitely worth one day of your trip, mellower terrain than JH, but usually better snow conditions.

Is the same lift ticket good at both places?

No

GT is cheaper, but if you add in the cost of riding the Targhee Shuttle, it's the same.

Just wanted to follow up and say we did, indeed, make the trip over to GT from JH.  It was a good time, a nice change of pace.  The morning was a bit of a bummer because they closed a couple of lifts, including Dreamcatcher, for wind, but around lunch time the wind died down and the snow started up.  The afternoon more than made up for it.

I'd note that if your traveling with a junior buy the bus ticket only (not the combo bus & lift) then get your junior ticket at the window.  It saves about $20-something bucks.  Also it's possible to get delayed because of road closures on Teton Pass.  All and all though, a fun trip.  Thanks for the replies.
