Considering changing from my Monster 78s 178 to something with a bit more float through spring slush which I found pretty hard going by the end of the day last season in NZ.
I'm mainly front side ATM but seem to be progressing OK for an older intermediate guy (57) and hope to do more off piste this season.
Hard icy conditions are unfortunately pretty common where we ski but the odd POW day is not unheard of so that should be more fun on the wider boards
I can get a good deal on a 2009 Palmer P01 in 179 which is 88 wide and has some rocker which Ive been told will help in the slush.
I know the equipment is not going to compensate for technique and fitness both of which I'm working on but several people have commented that a mid fat with rocker will make for much easier skiing through heavy mush and the Palmer is the right price
Ive only had one trip of 10 days on the monsters and generally found them pretty nimble once they got moving but a bit stiff at slower speeds, Im 6'1 185 lbs and sometimes wonder if I should have gotten the 171 size instead?
Ideally I'd take both skis and still may but with ever tightening airline baggage rules it may be I only take one pair so I'd need to be reasonably confident the Palmers could hold an edge.
Any thoughts on this change and the Palmer P01 specifically as a one ski quiver for mixed conditions?.
