I think you are fooling yourself. It isn't like most people haven't seen this done and the other set is never that far away (maybe a couple of racks). Locks are cheap in my opinion, most skis are not.

thanks for all the replies... two things... 1) this thread has made me feel less of a dweeb for wanting to lock my skis and 2) this site in general has been very good willed to me so far and some of my noobisms. thank you all.
