Visual Cues to Efficient Skiing

Thread Starter

Writing from the PNW division, Snoqualmie Pass.  A new instructor was asking me about the "Visual Cues to Efficient Skiing."

"Is that something peculiar to our school or is it a divisional thing or national or what?"

I know the examiners around here used to mark up exam comments with cryptic notations like +3a, so it must be at least divisional.

How about the other divisions.  Do you guys use "Visual Cues to Efficient Skiing," as an MA tool?  It seems to be drifting out of favor or getting mentioned less often.  Is there a replacement in the offing?  Or is my hearing just going.....

eh?

It's a national product.

IMHO it is one of the best products ever put out by PSIA

I'll add that while it is still quite relevant I'm looking forward to some updated pictures, but, yes, I use it a lot here in the East.

pictures? really? I had to pull mine out to check. Never bothered to look at the pics. Didn't need to. The ineffective pics looked better illustrative than the effective pics. Having pictures for each of the items would be great, but then it would not fit on 3x5 cards.

Hey, Mole, PSIA has (or at least conducted in the past) something called the examiner college. Usually followed the national academy event. Examiners from all the divisions get together a compare notes on how they would rate various skiing abilities. The goal is maintaining approximate unanimity across the divisions. When I was in touch with a bunch of the examiners from Central Division, they'd come back from the event talking about how close everyone was to the same evaluations. I'm sure they also communicated all sorts of other information.
