Bases on new '11/'12 Volkl Mantra--are they ski ready?

Just picked up my new Mantras last weekend, and will be using them in Southern VT next weekend. My question is ......are the factory bases and edges ski ready? I have been told by a number of that the bases and edges come out of Volkl ready to go, while others have said that edges are good, but the bases should be hot boxed or that i should hot scrape a few times with a base prep wax, then a "wax for the day" . I have skied a bunch of times this season already, so this will be my last trip of the season. Im wondering if the bases will be good for this weekend, and then hot scrape after (leaving a coat of base prep wax on the bases) before storing for the summer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I put a straight edge with a light behind it on my skis every few inches tip to tail to check for flatness.  Often new skis are concave or convex in places. From there, I bevel the side edges to 3 degrees. Then wax.  Minimum.

Base bevel should be OK from the factory.

IMO no ski is "ready to go" unless the seller tunes it.  Always check the bases on new skis, they cure and go out of spec often.  Theres no need to hot box a Mantra unless you are racing on it. Wax is always a good idea and your storage plan sounds fine.

If you do not carve, which the Mantras are great at, skip the check and hit the slopes.

I carve....thats what i do the most. A bit of moguls, trees, new stashes of pow. but carving the most.

Then you picked the right ski.  I demo'd a pair recently and they were fantastic. GREAT edge hold for a wide ski. Definitely on my short list of next ski to get.  Enjoy!
