Please help! Atomic Crimson or Blizzard 8.1

Hi all, I'm new to the form, but have been reading many of the posts for several weeks now. There's a lot of GREAT info / advise to be found here by many of you guys!

I just purchased a pair of Blizzard 8.1 2012 @ 179cm. Got them at $650.00 W/Markers.

I'm returning to skiing after nearly 20 years....I'm 48, 6' 1" 205 lbs.

The only experience on the newer skis is when I demoed the 2010 Volkl AC 30 one day and the AC 50 on another day.

Bother were on hard pack at Windham and Hunter in NY.

I enjoyed both very much. I prefer the slightly quicker edge to edge performance of the AC30...the AC50's were a blast, but I can see that these were much more work on shorted turns.

I am SHOCKED how far ski technology has progressed.

I'm wondering if I made the correct choice with the Blizzards, since several shops said they would be closer in performance to the AC30. However, reading reviews of the Atomic Crimson Ti 2012 is making me have second thoughts.

I like skiing fast, but enjoy laying back once in a while. I don't venture into the the woods or bumps that often, but will on occasion.

I consider myself an higher end advanced intermediate / Lower advanced....fairly aggressive.

My last skis were the classic K2 KVC Comps 8.3 (204cm). Loved them, and was able to ski them quite well on the steeps and groomers.

Would I really feel a big difference between the 2 (Crimson vs Blizz 8.1) ?

Getting a lot of conflicting info when reading the mass of info to be found on the web....too much info at times.

Some say the Atomics are more stable at speed than the Blizzards and vise verse....etc.

My gut says I'd be happy with either, but not too sure.

Any input would be greatly appreciated....and I know similar questions have been asked.

Thanks in advance.

The crimsons are about 7mm larger all around, so i would think they'd be quite different.

Just on geometry:

The crimsons are probably more comparable to the 8.7

and the blackeyes would be more comparable to the 8.1

Thanks for the info.

Wondering if the Blizzard 8.1 would be more stable at speed than the Crimsons. I'm between 205-210 lbs.

I don't know, since I haven't skied the Crimson in a long time.  I can say the Blizzard is more damp, and VERY stable in it's given length.  Great ski.

IMO, and in general, I would say the Blizzi (narrower with no early rise) is a bit more hard snow oriented than the Crimson (wider with slight early rise).

I've skied neither, but I do own the Magnum 8.7 and the Nomad Savage (big brother to the Crimson).  I love both, but the Mag is more hard snow oriented than the Savage, and that's what I base the above opinion on.

Get out there and ski the crap out of those Blizzards.  Welcome back to the slopes!

Thanks for the info.

After reading a few more reviews I think I made the right choice with the Blizzards.

I'll ski the crap out of them :)

Also, I look forward to shopping around for an additional pair next year.

Great deals can be found on the web...not like it use to be when I first shopped for skis.

It appears that you really can't make a bad choice overall if you stay in the same class of skis.

From what others have mentioned, today's skis are light years ahead of what was available 20 years ago.

It's great to be back!
