Oregon Trip - Meadows, Skibowl, and Mt Bachelor?

Have a conference for work in Bend, OR in a couple weeks and I've decided to work it so I could ski a bit while I'm there (cause why wouldn't you?).

I've skied Timberline in the summer so don't really have a desire to hit it, but what I haven't been able to do is hit Ski Bowl or Meadows. Also I've never skied Mt Bachelor. Really curious how the crowds and terrain on these break down. Thought about doing an evening (or like 3pm on) at both Skibowl and Meadows after working on like Monday and Tuesday, and Then doing a Saturday and Sunday at Mt Bachelor after the conference. Really have no idea how crowds look at any of these, and if I'd be better off taking a day off for the Mt Hood ones or if the night terrain is plenty.

How would you guys play it? Technically I could skip all the mount hood stuff and only do Bend and Mt Bachelor if crowds are bad on a weekend down there and the others really aren't worth it. Or vice versa. The only commitment I have is to be in Bend on the 1st and 2nd.

Also for the Mt Hood side of things where do people stay? The only times I've been there we had a cabin. This time I'm alone but something with Wifi would be great so I could get some work done. The Resort at the Mountain is a little pricey but doesn't seem too out of whack with things out there for what you seem to get. Anybody been there?

Thanks!

I may be missing something here, but if you're staying in Bend why would you want to drive all the way up to Hood? Bachelor is the best ski area in the state by far.

Oops, I should have mentioned that I'm likely flying into PDX (cheaper, have friends there). But if it's not worth hitting the Hood ones in light of Bachelor existing I could just skip hanging around around Hood and head straight to Bend to ski Mt Bachelor on weekdays.

Well others can weigh in on that, though for my money I'd skip the drive from Portland to Hood, short as it is, and just do Bachelor.

Actually, Mt Hood is on the way to Bend on Hwy 26.

Here's what I think: spend at least 3 days at Bachelor, and a weekday at Mt Hood Meadows (weekends can be crowded).

Fly into PDX, drive to Hood River (an hour away along the Columbia).  Stay a night in Hood River or if you like nice quaint places, the Inn at White Salmon across the river.  Hood River is a great ski town/summer activity town.  Hwy 35 on the east side of Mt Hood is a much less crowded (and a very pretty) drive than all the Portland traffic coming up Hwy 26.  Takes about 40 minutes.  Ski Mt Hood Meadows.  I personally like Meadows, lots of variety in the terrain with some nice long cruisers, and lots of short black diamond runs off the cruisers.  If you want gated backcountry-type terrain Heather Canyon is there and has a lift to get you back to the main area.  They have mostly express quad lifts.    If it's not a weekend you can have a lot of the mountain to yourself.  They also have decent night skiing (not as much as Ski Bowl, though).

Even if you ski late, the drive from Mt Hood Meadows to Bend is 2 and half hours.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback! And just as I get a sense of how I'm going to work this some new project deadlines come into play. So now I may just be flying into Bend and only can ski over the weekend (I *may* be able to work it from Government Camp and ski at night but who knows now). Ah the perils of making a work trip a ski trip. :)

OK, so only you know how much you can squeeze in a relatively short time.  I myself have sometimes been a little too optimistic about how much I can cram in a short time.  If you're flying in and out of Bend/Redmond I think I would stay in Bend/Redmond and ski Bachelor.  It's a big mountain and doesn't get too crowded on weekends, and again, most of the lifts are express quads.

When are you going? I'll be at Bachelor on the 24th & 25th, on my way to the Gathering in Tahoe.

Yeah that's true, but it's not the fastest way to get to Bend from Portland, is it? Isn't it faster to go down I-5 and over Willamette Pass? Or maybe it's only faster if you're staying in Sisters, like I used to. It's been years and years, so I'm not professing superior knowledge here.

Welp, looks like due to some work scheduling I'm ending up directly in Bend. So three days of Mount Bachelor for me! I'll be there March 3rd-5th. Looking forward to it! Thanks for all of the input!
