For general-use purposes and some specialized applications (such as diving) I was going to pick up a Canon S100. It occurs to me that I may be able to get away with using this to video myself and others skiing for training purposes. Is the 24-120mm 35mm equivalent zoom range workable for this? My intuition tells me the 120mm may not be long enough to make a sizeable video for an average-sized slope.

It's been a LONG time since I've purchased a digicam (my last purchase was my beloved Canon 5D) so I don't know what current technology is capable of. For example, it may well be the case that taking a 720p/30 or even 1080p/24 video with digital 4x zoom (on top of the aforementioned optical range) would still give enough pixels to see what someone was doing in the distance, but I was hoping someone with more recent experience could just give my plans a thumbs-up or -down.
