Looken for skis

ok im a 16 year old high school racer and im looken to start racing ussa and i need all new skis (or new to me) for next year

 

im right now running 

156 - fischer rc4 SL from a coupe years back 

171 - atomic GS from a coupe years back as well

 

im 5' 11" at 137lb's

 

im looken at right now atomic, rossi, nordica, and dynastar skis

 

i really like how my atomics feel they feel more planted and i feel more confident with them

my fischer i dont like they feel very slippery and they dont stay planted for me in the turns and i dont feel very confident with them

 

i need a set of SL, GS, and SG for next year

 

any help in finding a ski that would be best for me would help (i did go to the shops near me and ask to demo skis)

Do you know what sizes you need to run for USSA?

Luckily, it's pretty easy to look these things up.

 

Assuming the USSA regs don't change next year (which ... is really not that obvious a thing)

shows:

 

SL: 165 men (155 for J2s)/ 155 women, no radius requirement

GS: 180 men (21m) / 175 women (21m)

SG: 200 men (33m) / 195 women (33m)

 

these differ from FIS (non-WC/Continental cup) in GS, where it's 185 (27m) / 180 (23m) and SG, where it's 205 (33m) / 200 (33m)

GS=180

SG=200

I have a 201 Salomon SG available @ $220.  Fast Ski, lots of wax.  May have some 165 Blizzard Slalom available later in the season..  PM me for details

I'd hold back on racing SG if you are coming straight from highschool racing. Get the SG skis and spend a very fair amount of time on them before jumping into a race on them. Too many times have I seen kids jump straight on SG or DH skis for race day with either never skiing on them before or getting a mere couple of runs down on them. Not safe at all. If your schedule allows and you live in a good area, try getting to the local hill during the week (low traffic) and get the skis running. I freeski on my DH and SG skis for a good 15+ runs a week at my local hill.

ok thanks but i still really havent gotten an answer to my question what would be out of all the brands of race skis what would be best for a light 16 year old kid?

Go out and demo some pairs to see what works for you. I could tell you what brands are particularly stiff and which ones are softer, but that won't necessarily help you in the end because it all boils down to how you ski.

i would love to go out and demo skis but all the places near me dont do demos so i really cant

 

my coach said a softer ski would be better for me

super g is stupid to try to do(at least for our ussa in the midwest).  SG skis are the biggest waste of money I have ever seen.  Some teams share a few pairs!!

My daughter used to use "team skis" for SG.

Not a waste at all. I use my SG skis about as much as my slalom skis. The more you ski on them, the better you are come race day. Same goes for DH skis.

I skied the other evening with my daughter, age 12. We were both on SG skis. Me on 204/33m radius and her on 175/27m radius. The piste was empty and we ripped it up big time. I haven't had more fun for ages, either on skis or with my daughter. To get both at once...WOW!

Well we had fun on our SG skis. But if you don't want to play....
