Can packing the boots with orthodics, lifts and shims be effective for a boot that's too big?

orthodontics go in your mouth so they would probably be ineffective (sorry had to do it!)
an orthotic insert and a volume reducer shim can work for a boot the correct length with too much volume, but it is a bit of a sticking plaster solution and not going to be a long term answer, as for a boot which is generally too big in terms of length then it is not really a solution at all, it may feel good for a day or two but not much more (if that), that and the fact that your foot will never be the correct position in the shell will affect your balance on your skis
it sounds as though it may be time for new boots, give us a little more background and we may be able to help more
