I am looking for a direct comparison on these 2 skis, are they similar? I want a frontside ski only to add to 2 fatter skis I have. I have demoed 5 or 6 and really liked the Dynastar SC Ti in 171 length. I didn't try the 177cm. I did not get to try out the Titan and this has been recommended as an alternative by a few people at the mountain. I had planned on getting the SC if I can find one, but I can get a pair of new Titans 170 length at a good price, much less than the SC's. Hence, my question.
I am not looking for a race ski, something less demanding but a good carver. Comfortably makes medium to big turns, but not impossible to make short turns. I am going to use it primarily on groomers/hardpack and want a ski that is stable at speeds up to (40-55), but not squirrely/unstable at <30. It needs to hold an edge very well. I would like it to be okay to good in crud if possible. I have a Volkl rtm84 and for the most part its a great ski, but... there are limits with this ski. If I get the Titans (78mm) it would likely replace this ski though.
I read Dawgcatching's review on sub 80mm skis from last year and also other reviews including Realskiers. There's conflicting opinions on the Titans. Anywhere from "carving rocket, no speed limit, super stable, grip without the pain of a race ski, etc..." Dawgcathing said (paraphrasing) he thought the ski was great off-piste and in crud but not the most stable at speed. On hardpack the edge-hold was lacking. Good fall-line ski.
Anyone else have a head to head comparison? Also looking for recc's on length for the Titan. 171cm in SC seems to be best for me. I am 5'11", 190lbs, advanced.
