Southern Idaho Road Trip - Part Two: Starting with SuperBowl Sunday

Superbowl is a great American Sports institution.  For skiers, it means less crowded slopes!  This year was no exception, starting with our day at Tamarack.  As you may know, Tamarack was closed for a season but the homeowners took up the cause to get it reopened.  It was my first time there and we had some really good fun, including a little powder time.  Here's what game-day looked like for us:

Monday morning was an early start with temperature readings of -8 when we left Tamarack on our way to Bogus Basin, just outside of Boise.  In light of the lack of snow this year, conditions were really good.  And who can argue with Bluebird?  Here's our Monday:

Following our ski day at Bogus, we had a four and a half hour drive to Pocatello on our way to Pebble Creek.  Pebble has to be one of my favorite Idaho stops.  It's a steep hill with excellent back and side country options.  This year, there really wasn't enough snow to take advantage of some of the boundary options but we still had a great time.  Blue skies and cold smoke arcing turns is fun, too!  This is yesterday at Pebble Creek:

SB77 - Tamarack is really a pretty cool mountain but a lot of the better terrain is outside the normal boundaries.  Either north or south through the gates, especially north, can take you into some pretty awesome stuff.  Even though some of the run-outs are a little flat, it's a quick trip followed by a quick ride to the top so they're really pretty fun runs.

Spikedog - Yes, the Superior chair is a brand new detachable quad with some great north-facing runs.  It's nice to have the quick trip to the top!

The shots at 0:41 and 2:25 are with a GoPro on the end of a 12' gaff pole.  The skis at 3:01 are Rossignol Sickles.  Thanks for watching and the comments!!
 

Idaho has some really incredible skiing!  The problem (I don't consider it a real problem) is that there is so little population, no one knows about it. Sun Valley, Schweitzer, Grand Targhee are all great resorts and reasonably well known but the small resorts, like in this report, are completely overshadowed.  There is great skiing all over the place and awesome mountains for back country. Although not well developed like the mega-resorts in other states, we truly have some of the best mountain terrain in the country that no one knows about.
