Cat Skiing Around Keystone

Thread Starter

I'm heading to Colorado this Saturday and after a quick stop in Steamboat will be staying in Keystone as a home base for the rest of the week thanks to a free condo hook-up.  Fortunately there's some snow in the forecast so Vail, Copper, A-Basin and where-ever else we decide to go should be fun hopefully... but it's always good to have a backup powder plan.

So I ask - where is the best cat skiing in the general area (within an hour or two)?  There would be two of us at first and five of us later in the week if group size makes a difference on recommendations.

Powder Addiction on Jones Pass gets good reviews.   I haven't gone with them yet, but the owner is a really good guy.

I wouldn't recommend Ski Cooper.  Flat, wind effected terrain.

Monarch is ok, steep but short pitches.

Aspen is good, but outside of your general area.

And perhaps you will have the good timing to catch the $5 cat rides offered at Keystone itself:

Yeah, figured I'd do that at least.  Normally Keystone wouldn't be on my to-do list, but I suppose since we're staying there I might as well check it out.

Another option, although I've never heard anything about them in the 15 or so seasons I've been skiing:

Thanks.  Ended up being a moot point as it's been a great week for snow out here in Colorado.  After some crud at Steamboat on Sunday, we were happy to find boot deep powder in the back bowls at Vail on Monday (and phenomenal tree skiing), plenty of fresh tracks to be had in the trees elsewhere Tuesday, and a nice reload for today (Wednesday) at Copper.  Actually found myself thigh deep in a few places up top.
