Dalbello introduced the original Krypton in 2005 as a 2006 model and for 2013 Dalbello is introducing the next evolution on their 3 buckle Cabrio design in a boot apply named the Krypton KR Two. When the Krypton was introduced, I quickly called the Krypton "A Flexon on steroids" now Dalbello in this evolution is calling the new KR Two "Darwin on steroids". There have been numerous changes made to the KR Two, it is not just some new paint and buckles in this new boot, in fact the only similarity between the KR2 and outgoing Krypton is that there are 3 pieces in the shell, 3 buckles, similar colors and Dalbello is written on the outside, EVERYTHING else is new.
Dalbello has modernized the new KR2 not only giving it a more modern look, but more importantly they changes the stance in the boot by lowering the zeppa and changing the cuff angle to create a more upright modern stance so the skier can be more skeletally stacked, The interior shape has also evolved, it is more contoured now in the heel area, there is a spot for the navicular bone to sit and sculptured heel pocket for better hold, Dalbello took the plug (interior shape) from the Scorpion to create the inner of the boot. Where the Krypton never won a lot of fans with it's interior shape, I over heard the KR Two receive numerous complements on its fit and stance by well respected boot fitters who were both in their camp and competitors such as.. "The KR Two is disappointing in that I didn't expect it to be this good" and "While the Krypton was not never in my buying projections, I now have to make a spot for the new KR Two"
I was hoping that I would be able to get into a pair to ski but was told that wasn't going to be any 25.5's built until the fall, so I will have to wait to try them. While I was in a 26 Krypton, I found this 26 to fit big, it is now a 307mm shell where as the first generation was a 306 (the Flexon was a 301). According to the 2013 catalog, shells will run in 10mm increments from the stated 267mm 22.5 up to a 337mm 29.5. I also heard a rumor that Dalbello will be offering the Ladies versions down to a (real) 21.5, 257mm shell.
The KR Two will be available with both a traditional TruFit Liner and ID (Intuition Dalbello) liners.
