I got up to Whistler in January and took the opportunity to demo a few of the new skis. I have been riding Dynastar Big Troubles for a few years and am wanting to upgrade to a newer model. What I like about the BT is that unique combination of medium-flexing tip, stiff underfoot, and soft tail. Conditions at Whistler were not great. There had been no new snow in a while, conditions on the groomers were firm, refrozen snow, okay in some spots, choppy and bumpy in others. Off-piste was basically a no-fly zone, at least for an intermediate level skier like myself.

My demo list:

Rossignol S3 (186cm) - The S3 felt floppy and imprecise, didn't get a chance to try it in powder.

Salomon Lord (177cm) - Typical Salomon feel, easy, stable and forgiving, maybe a bit bland.

Atomic Crimsom (171cm) - A really fun, fast ride, but for me it feels too demanding for more than a few runs.

Line Prophet 90 (172cm) - I skied this one later in the month when there was fresh snow. The Prophet was smooth and stable in the wind-packed powder up on Seventh Heaven but on the groomed runs I couldn't seem to find the balance point. The 179cm may have been a better length for me at 6 ft, 175 lb.

If I had to choose from the short list above, I would go with the Lord. The Lord feels like a well-rounded design, it just didn't feel too exciting. A Salomon Lord with a bit of spice, such as more energy or kick in the tail, would be a very good ski. Any suggestions?
