I ski east coast back country. Often stream beds, hiking trails and tight trees where powder is not the norm. Typically I've skied 1 degree base and two degree side bevels. I've been wondering lately if it is worth experimenting with more base bevel. The reality out here is that there's not usually enough room to make a complete carving turn that follows the turn radius of the ski so we end up smearing or buttering our turns. When conditions allow, skiing steep gullies (Tuckerman's ravine type terrain) involves quick little turns mixed with the occasional jump turn.
Has anyone experimented with this? Surely there's collective knowledge on this.
