MX88 does not have easy rise, the BMX does, I think there was some confusion in the two models. I skied the current MX and next years MX back to back, I didn't see much if any of a difference, what can be expected, they both have the same exact dimensions.

Thanks Phil. Keep hoping they'll give the fatter MX's and FX's a tweak in the rise department, but obviously not this year...frown.gif

EndUro 850 is a damn nice ski and is on the power side of the power/finesse scale. Along with the Enduro 800, these two could be very well the best frontside skis Salomon has ever offered.

yes just like in in the power , stability, dampness  dept. but as phil mentioned above its more on the power side of the power / finesse scale . so the question was...... is there something out there that has all those great qualities we all like about the 850 but with more of the finesse .

i actually would of loved to see a bit more pop out of last years 850 otherwise its a super ski . would  you say the kastle 83  is all that mentioned or ??

The new Blizzard Magnum 8.5 will give you a bit more finesse due to the flip cores early rise tip and tail and still has a nice a bit of power.

how does  that tip and tail riser feel  on the 8.5 ?  is it similar to the type of skiing as the rtm volkl line (like a system ski feel ) or do the blizzards feel a bit more damp

like the enduro ......thank you in advance

Not similar to the RTM at all, it has much more life than the RTM due to the camber underfoot, the feel is close to the Enduro 850, but i don't feel it to be damn, but more so smooth and powerful.

Hi, Phil,

GREAT thread!  Looking forward to the Loveland demos!  This thread zeroed in on several skis I'm looking forward to trying (esp. Kastle MX 83 and Blizzard Magnum 8.0.  A few questions:

The Magnum is offered in Carbon and Ti versions.  Did you try both?  How would you compare them and do you think one might be a better bet for me (165 lbs., using this ski primarily on the front side, but will take it into bumps and crud at a good clip)?

Also, I see Volkl has added a V-Werks version to the RTM 84.  Other then being a claimed 15% lighter, do they ski any differently from the regular RTMs?  The RTMs didn't seem that heavy to begin with.

Thanks!

Mike

I did ski the 8.0CA and the Ti and as you can see I named the CA as a Steals & Deals winner For a lighter guy the CA would be great for you, the 8.0Ti is actually closer in performance to the 8.5Ti.

The V-Werks is a smoother more refined RTM84, it is a bit more sprite and it is a much better looking ski, if that matters.

You and I are about the same size and weight. The 8.5 has a slightly bigger sweetspot and will be slightly better off piste, but both are great skis and can't go wrong either way.

Marginally better. The Enduro does need a bit more speed to get it going but we are really just spitting hairs here.

Stick with a flat mount, you will be happy.

Tend to agree about flat skis, but here, isn't the Blizzard binding just a rebadged Griffon? And I though that for the regular Ti - as contrasted with the M-Power - the "suspension" was just the two carbon stringers, not the plate. Wrong? th_dunno-1[1].gif

No, it is a whole plate system and it is not the Griffon style binding they have used in the past for the previous Suspension or IQ Max systems.

Good to know, stand corrected (Always wondered how to do that. On one leg? Or on head?) biggrin.gif

And since only familiar with previous incarnations, do I take your comment as "Not impressed with this version?" Or "Never impressed, period." I kinda like the Power suspension, and never found the regular non-piston to be objectionable. Unlike some stuff from Nordica or Salomon or Dynastar that shall remain nameless...

I just don't think the ski needs it. The 8.0 and 8.5 ski so nice with a rigid flat mount binding like a Sth or Pivot, the U.S. Blizzard guys also felt the same way since that is the way they are bringing them to sell here.
