Daughter needs a new pair of skis, confused about sizing

Very confused by sizing charts, hoping the experts on here could help me!

I'm buying skis for both my daughter and my niece.

Daughter is 6' and 130 pounds, very timid skier and very new (4 times skiing)

Niece is 5'6" and 110 pounds, ready to do glades and jumps (2 times skiing).  The first thing I have to do is get my niece a helmet, she is fearless to a fault and learning fast.

My wife and daughter would be able to use the same ski and boots.  Their feet are identical, but my wife is a bit shorter but 135 pounds.  So we are hoping to share a set there.

The problem:

The ski deals I'm looking at have 148cm and 153cm available.  They are Dynastar Exclusive Active beginner-intermediate skis.  I figure my Niece would land nicely on the 148cm's for sizing but the 153 may be a bit small for my daughter.

I've had some people say that the ice and her very mild manner , the 153 will suite her well.

What do you think of these sizes for these two?  I want to make a purchase soon but keep hearing different opinions.

I appreciate any help.

Conditions:  always on slope, groomed slopes/trails and likely never any park riding except maybe my niece might, who knows.  Packed powder at best, most likely groomed granular and icey conditions (east coast joy)

Honestly, I would go closer to 160 for your daughter. That's probably just getting at chin height; she'll never be anything but timid if she's trying to balance on virtual snowblades. And the 153s sound better for your niece, not 148.

Well, at the local rental shop they put my niece on 140's and my daughter on 155's.  I told them that I thought they should be at the chin as a beginner and they commented that east coast, they dont do that.  I would think that they would 'flop' around making her more timid and less confident,...

so to experiment, I got her 165's the last time we went out, and she was whinning "oh I was doing so well on the 155's , why did you change it on me!".

Just unsure I guess. I had a deal on 163's that I passed on and should have picked up, the next 'deal' is 150 more :(  I still have the ability to get the niece something for a good price and not that this should be important but, they look cool too. :)

This is close to what I'd suggest also.

Remember, too short is just as bad as too long.
