Skiing in Canada in April 2012

I'm currently planning a ski trip to Canada in April (6th-15th) but I never been skiing in Canada before so I would really appreciate some advice!

Since it's so late in the season, we're should I go if I want to know for sure that there will be snow? I heard that Whistler and Banff are two places that have long seasons?

What are the conditions in Canada right now? Has it been alot of snow this year and does it look good for April?

Thank you so much in advance for your advice!

Here is Whistler-Blackcomb 2nd and 3rd week of April 2011 TR with lots of details and video, simple viewpoint - vertical and terrain hard to match anywhere, inbounds terrain that is:

And Sunshine Village, Banff National Park, video 3rd week of April 2008: No TR that I can recall, was a beginner, and I do not think I knew epic ski existed then, I began skiing in Feb 08 to follow my little boy. He was 5 at the time. (1st 9 secs are upstate NYC)

And to get a tremendous idea of what Whistler-Blackcomb is like: go to this web developer's page, they have this 3-D google Earth based application, online, which gives you tremendous perspective:

Currently, WB has more snow than the Banff area, but check websites for projected closing dates. It's a so-so year for snow compared to last year, as yet, this year, all the snow has fallen on St Anton and the Arlberg!

Hi Richard

Our ski season here in Banff runs through till May 21st. April provides some of the best skiing of the entire season; the snow base is at its peak and it keeps snowing right up till our closing date. Powder days are very common in April here!

Lake Louise has reported the second best season in over a decade; I was out skiing there last weekend and the cover is fantastic, we had 20cm of fresh overnight which made for an amazing powder day!
