Any advice or specific boot recommendations welcome. I am a 1 week a year skier with about 12 years under my belt. I bought these Atomic Race boots when I was really a learner, which just goes to prove that I didn't know what I was buying! I am not sure what flex they are but they are pretty stiff - probably 130+, and are built up on the toe and heel (sorry, I am short on technical terminology!). They are very comfortable for me and are a tight fit but I have long suspected that they are just too stiff for my style of skiing. I feel like they encourage me to ski fast - everything falls into place when I put a lot of energy through them, but my athletic and skiing ability has never matched the boot (and at 36 years old, I am not going to get fitter!)
So the time has come for replacement and I am considering going for something softer - my question is, how soft should I go? I am concerned about totally wrecking my skiing by going too soft. I like to ski any piste and am increasingly enjoying going off piste, but I feel like I struggle for control while going slowly - like on moguls or in the trees. Is my thinking that going softer in the boot will help me, correct or misguided? I still want to go fast with confidence too!
I have narrow feet - these boots are probably 98 or less in the last. I am heading for Steamboat in a few weeks and will probably shop in the resort for new boots. Budget is less important than getting the right boots! Any reccs for a good fitter in Steamboat?
