I've DQ'ed myself for missing a gate on NASTAR courses. Should I re-think doing that?
No need to rethink. There are no officials watching on Nastar (and certainly not with video replay), so you have to self police. I am sure that your straddles are a lot more obvious and you would be DQed if there was an official watching.
I read elsewhere that it is not always obvious at the WC level if it is a straddle or not and that sometimes a racer who technically straddles is not even aware of it (i.e. in the case where his ski is off the snow and he straddles where the gate would have been if he hadn't already knocked it over).
