Best ski bag for air travel

Thread Starter

I am heading to Colorado next week, and I need a ski bag. I was thinking about going with a hard case is this over kill? I think it would be great for airtravel but it may be a little clumsy for other forms of travel. I am having trouble finding one that will fit my 92 underfoot skis with AT bindings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am also not looking to spend more than 125 bucks. Thanks

I use a High Sierra wheeled double ski bag.  It is a soft case, not hard.  My 182cm Movement Jam (Tip/Waist/Tail--136/85/117) fits inside.  I am pretty sure that I bought them for less than $100 brand new shipped on Ebay.

I air traveled to DEN with skis often and I always have used soft case.  I think hard case is sort of overkill.

I just bought one of these: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/high-sierra-wheeled-ski-bag-double-expandable~p~71284/?filterString=search~high-sierra-bag%2F&colorFamily=27. It says $75, but there are always extra coupons somewhere. Nothing fancy, but long enough (definitely check length) for the 187s and189s in the family.

I don't know if it's the "best," but it's a good price.

$120 for a hard case.  After seeing the marks that the baggage apes put in my Sportube, I wouldn't want to use a soft case.  Not really any tougher to deal with than a soft case.

I've got the next bigger one than that one to hold my mono ski and 2 pairs of skis.

I prefer soft wheeled bags.  You can pack additional clothing and accessories inside.

Hard cases are difficult to pack and I've heard of TSA taking them apart and no properly putting them back together, dumping your possessions who knows where?

Difficult to pack?  Insert skis - thats about it.  Yes, sometimes the tsa guys seem to miss the hole with the lock or pin, which is why I use both.
