I'm an older aggressive skier; skiing about 14 days a year, either in the western US or alternatively EU; we try to ski off-piste when we can, hiring guides as needed (e.g. Valle Blanche / Chamonix). "Ski Powder if you got them" is more the philosophy.
I own some old Salomon Scream Hots (180), but they're getting a little long in the tooth. I rented some Nordica Helldiver Pro's (178) last year when skiing Kicking Horse (BC) and Panorama; This year so far have demo'd some Atomic Blogs (185) at Whistler on 4-6" of powder day.
My observation is that my current Screams turn well on-piste, and work reasonably well off-piste, even up to say knee level powder as long as it's steep enough; they submarine in full-powder conditions. The Helldivers (not CA) were better than the Screams in every way; they handled crusty powder more decisively, faster, but required some care when getting them on edge on icy steeps. I liked the Blogs (HATE the name), especially what they did in the powdery trees, but found that I was being beat up when going fast on piste over smaller bumps (seemed much 'flatter' than the Scream Hots). I also demo'd some Rossignol E98's, which were so 'meh' I don't remember much about them, despite having tried them four days ago
What other skis should I be considering?
