Desperate for the best flat-light goggles - Page 3

Thread Starter
Hey, I just wanted to stop back and thank everyone for helping out in this thread, especially Uilleann who was kind enough to speak with me on the phone and had provide valuable information.

I was lucky enough to run across a set of Smith Phenoms with the Rose Copper polarized lens on sale (older model?) at a resort and was able to look out at the slopes and bought them on the spot. They are maybe 10% better than my previous goggles, which doesn't sound like much but every little bit helps! Combined with Uilleann's recomendations regarding what type of corrective lenses to get, I feel I'm on the right track and will probably go with a set of goggle that can handle their own corrective lenses soon rather than wearing my glasses as I usually do. (Uilleann; I looked up corrective lenses and the Cruizel lenses are what I currently use. I think you said those would be a good lense for my purposes?)

Thanks again, this has been a big help!

I just ordered a pair of Von Zipper Project Flatlight Bushwick Goggles from Evo -- am curious to see how they work.

I've had a chance to talk to the Von Zipper guys several times over the past year. The wife and I really like their ophthalmic and sun lines, although we haven't seen much from their goggle offerings at the trade shows. If their other lines are anything to go by, their goggles look to be fairly decent I believe. Let us know how you like the optics, fit and function after a few days on!

I can confirm that my blue POC lenses, aren't worth S**T for flat light.  Had a lot of trouble late afternoon on sunday at Cannon.

Breck was sunny this morning, but flat light this afternoon so I gave my new goggles a try. Always hard to gauge if there is an improvement in vision (almost need to stop and take them off), but I do believe the definition was somewhat better. The one thing I really noticed though was that it seemed like a sunny day even though I didn't have the crisp slope definition of an actual sunny day.

My wife tried them and really thought definition was much better!

The Bushwhack lens isn't a true spheroid (or even better an aspheroid), so not optically correct for a wrap, but the color cast and density looks to be very nice for those flat light days. As previously mentioned, it won't bring out details that aren't there (contrast in flat light that simply doesn't exist), but it should make it much easier and more comfortable to navigate through what you're given. smile.gif How is the fit and function of the goggle itself, apart from the visual experience?

Honestly, they seem like the best made goggles I have purchased, but definitely not the most expensive (probably since the lens isn't a sphere). I purchased them on sale at EVO for only around $40. I have three other pair of goggles and they are all in the $100 range.

Fit seems pretty good!
