How Irritating (Crystal WA)

Thread Starter

HIGHWAY 410 IS CLOSED, but we are open! Several trees are over the road, land lines are down and cell phones are patchy. The lifts are operating, and it feels like a private mountain today. Southback is expected to open around 2 pm. The telemetry is down and snowfall totals are estimated. Today's snow will be wind-affected with extremely deep pockets in wind deposited areas and protected aspects. We've received over four feet of snow in the past five days! Please ski and ride with a visible partner. Updated: 1/19/12 10:21 a.m.

I am unaware of any other way in (might be some logging roads)

I guess you'll just have to hike in or rent a sled. Good luck.

Isn't that message for the folks who stayed overnight adn are all ready at the resort.

It's going to suck anyway.  33 DEG. at the base yesterday 31 on top and 73 MPH gusts. 15 inches of windblown slog!

You call yourself a PNW skier! Those are ideal conditions for slogging in muck up to your waist and can't see a damn thing.

The only good news is, I checked road conditions before I left the house this morning. "Windblown slog" is still better than the drywall my skis are leaning against right now. I am so f'n pissed....

I think what you would have skied would have resembled dry wall. A crusty top, and a crunchy undercoating. The groomers might have been pretty sweet though...

My Crystal friends, I feel your pain. In sympathy, I offer a few shots from Tuesday at Stevens when we were winding things down after lunch:

Wednesday was at a whole 'nother level, so no pictures were taken as no one was stopping. Today was "passable" - but that was mostly our fault since we did not arrive until well after opening and thus had to hunt for fresh snow & there was not as much deposited overnight. Plus I was seriously beat from the past two days.

Hope this helps! biggrin.gif

Looks exactly like Crystal last Tuesday, but I'm going with the theory that if I'm not there, the skiing is terrible. smile.gif
