Time to revisit a thread I started and have not attended to for too long. With apologies to all, my weekend schedule has not included free skiing, and, with the trip to the Tahoe gathering, I will not be available until at least the weekend of 3/10. Elk on 3/3 seems pretty reasonable if this is going to occur. For whatever it's worth, with the lack of snow, the reports I've heard is that the crazy, huge weekend crowds have not been present (at least at Blue).

The weekend of 3/10 would work fine for me if that would allow you to be included (although going from Tahoe to PA will be a bit of a let down...).  Either of those days are workable, as far as I know.

I can probably do 3/3 or 3/4 (or both?). I won't be able to do 3/10; 3/15 is the week of East Coast Gathering and I'm sure my wife would object me being missing for 2 weeks in a row - I won't even dare to ask about that lol.

OK, then how about we see what works best for the most people?  No sense it just being the two of us LOL.  But I can be talked into both weekends, so keep that in mind as well.

 

Is anyone else available and interested in either 3/4 (I have prior plans for 3/3) or either day of the weekend of 3/10-3/11? 

If a weekday during that time period is better for more people, I can deal with that too.  Let's get this off the ground!

The 4th is date of the Eastern PA Ski Council race which will be at Bear Creek. I don't know if that will impact the GTG but I committed to race for one of the clubs that date.

I've always wanted to try skiing there....never have. 

 

So maybe if there are a number of people who will be there anyway, we could do a GTG there that day?

 

Just an idea at this point, but let me know how anyone would feel about that.

Bear Creek is one of the less challenging mountains in PA. It has very nice facilities, a great lodge and a nice operation, but it is a little bump of a mountain. It has a good park but I don't think many of the Epic PA skiers are park rats - I could be wrong. It is also a busy mountain with pretty big crowds. On the plus side is is convenient to Phila, I 78,  and the turnpike.  Elk and Blue have the best terrain in eastern PA and Elk is not crowded by PA standards but Elk is probably the least convenient of the PA mountains. Not trying to dictate a choice but just presenting info.

OK, so far we're kinda split on who can attend on which date.  Hopefully we can get a few more people to come forward.  Maybe we can do both dates, same or different places, with however is available.  I don't care, let's get together and go skiing!

we'll be at whiteface 3/3-3/5.  the weekend of 3/10 could work for us. bear creek, blue mtn, jack frost, camelback or elk are all fine by us.

So far it's looking like the weekend of 3/10 is better for most.  Anyone else interested in either this weekend or March 4th? 

 

MX22, if nothing else, I wouldn't mind meeting up with you on the 4th.

TrekChick, I would ski with you but sorry we are headed to the Canyons in a week.   Also I can not get to my PC very often. Way too busy riding the hard pack.  I am spoiled living 8 miles from our little hill, but it still has snow.  For all you in the Virginia, PA DE, DC, area, Ski Roundtop, outside bands this weekend, great snow - well kinda sugar but white! and we have a Bar.

Ill be out all day Sat and Sunday am.  Ask for Ski Me Bob at Ski School.

Ok, I'll give one last try here.  I doubt the season has much life left around here, so if anyone is interested in meeting up at Elk on 3/11, let me know.  Unless the weather really sucks I'll be up there.

Wish I could make it up there.  I took this past Monday off to go skiing, and ended up sick the entire weekend thanks to someone showing up at work coughing up his lungs.  I'm probably heading out somewhere local tomorrow just to get a few hours under my skis.

 

Let me know how the conditions were.

I agree with Sibhusky. It is frustrating to me when people talk a huge game and then want to stop every couple hundred feet on a bump run I can do top to bottom many runs in a row. It getting harder to find people who can keep up and like the things I do. I would rather suck wind all day following someone faster than be lead just because how rare that has become for me. 

 

I do think skiing is social, on the lifts and at lunch. talking on the side of the trail is only an excuse for people who are not fit and/or efficient. 

 

Ripper me is much different than never ending patience of coach me.

 

When I skied with you, there was a lot of stopping and setting up for you to get your picture taken. It was not difficult to keep up.

Well, we had a nice EPIC day for one yesterday   LOL  Conditions at Elk were firm with some loose granular in the AM, softening up to great spring conditions by around noon, which is about when the bumps on Tunkhanok started to get skiable,  Great day, and nobody had to wait for me even once!  LMAO

Shoulda posted this a week ago - last Monday at Elk, 3/5: Arrived about 11, cars only in upper lot, slopes empty, bluebird day in the 20's, firm but not icy, still some quarter-inch corduroy at 11:30, altogether a great day with edgeable snow till 4. This week it's in the 60's and 70's here in the Trois Vallees (Delaware, Wissahickon and Schuylkill), so the skis go from the garage closet to the cellar and the bikes come up. Going to bag the Eastern gathering. Not driving 8 hours for slushpiles. So between the weather and arrival of grandkids, looks like a three-day season. See youns in Tahoe next year. Of course, by next year I'll ski free at Blue so I'll be looking forward to Phil joining me since I'll be able to afford the beer.

I heard from a regular they should be skiing this coming weekend, but after that, who knows?  Coverage was excellent on all trails except one, where the snow was getting brown in the center of the trail and a few rocks were coming up.  Of course, by the base area it was getting a bit "grabby"...made for some entertainment on the lift rides  LOL

Anyone up for a GTG this year (unfortunately the conditions are not much better than last year).

Maybe if we start planning now, we can have something planned by March  LOL
