Waiting in Big Sky. Since we already have good cover we're only asking for powder instead of existing packed powder and a few stashes. ZERO lift lines and cool temps = powders stashes for days after even a small snowfall.

Unfortunately our nemesis this year of another brutal windstorm (forecasts of 100 knot mountaintop winds) will accompany the next couple of days of snow in many places.
The mountain layer stability required to generate this kind of wind tends to suppress heavy snow not to mention blowing it into Nebraska. There are hundreds of trees down near timberline at Winter Park, which is likely to keep terrain closed for the season, and WP hasn't seen the worst of the winds this year in CO.
This is bad news for the bowls and we are going to be banking on recovery from the potential 'big' storm Sun/Mon even as seasonal totals increase.

Mt Hood reports 30inches in last 24hours... so far so good :)

Totally unfair and downright wrong!
If we were talking about the northeast, it would be normal.
That is not supposed to be Colorado!

winds are going to be a factor but the snowfall is supposed to be pretty heavy regardless. Latest weather discussion on NOAA for Steamboat discusses the possibility of upgrading warning to a blizzard. the storm due in this weekend is still a bit of a wait and see. Storm for tomorrow and thursday doesn't look that significant with just 3-6" predicted I think. However, JH is expecting 3 plus feet through friday. THe big question of course is how much for Tahoe..... they need feet

I think parts of Utah are expecting close to five feet by the weekend. I just hope all this snow isn't followed by a rash of avalanche related fatalities.

We have snow in the forecast every day through Monday. According to NOAA we might get about 12" in Billings, so possibly 18-24" at Red Lodge. I'm heading up on Thursday to try out a pair of Prophet 90's in whatever new snow there is.

If that storm doesnt reach this end of Wyo I may Join Mr. Cash and Head to Jackson, or Montana.
Weve got a chance every day untill Monday, but also a chance of rain in there at lower elevations (I thought Wyoming was in the west?) If the weather doesn't turn around fast and hard were headed for an early closing.

Unfortunately, the upgrade would be from a high wind warning, not a winter storm warning. Blizzard warnings can be about sustained wind with relatively low snow totals, especially if there is snowpack to move around.
But as you point out, what is happening here looks really good in others places.

Hoodoo has been epic this week! So far this storm has been unbelievable. Haven't skied in snow like this in too long. However, the second half of this storm isn't a jackpot, its a nightmare. If that thing hits the oregon cascades were looking at rain (and a lot of it) in the passes. All that dry snow going to waste... ahhhhh
30+ inches at Fernie last night, seems to be looking good!

this is for Steamboat CWA. as pointed out correctly by Naybreak, in all likelihood the lifts will be closed for the next couple of days due to high winds but we just got a foot and another foot (with another storm for sunday) will go a long way to recovery. My wife is traveling in Atlanta this week and overheard some folks who were headed to Tahoe this weekend already complaining about no snow... I think they are going to be surprised (although they may not ski after all
)
SNOW ACCUMULATION...8 TO 16 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY FRIDAY MORNING WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE PARK RANGE.

As of this morning Mammoth may get about 1.5 feet through Sunday. I sure hope UT gets at least double that for my trip on the 26th. Looking at the UT resort websites was kind of depressing yesterday. Please Ullr, bring the goods to the West.

Not that I've looked to extensively but all the forecasts I see for the Sierra shows Snow Levels about halfway up the mountains. 7800-8100 feet snow level.
How weird is this? A red flag fire weather warning:

Zone 34...Colorado North Central resorts...is now under blizzard warning, but with forecast totals in this first round of 2-7". In other words....wind...scouring of exposed areas, deposits in protected areas.
Steamboat probably does the best in the state in this type of event. It looks better towards next week if the pattern can get a bit of amplitude.

It's on here in Utah- snowing heavily in Park City and up to three feet or more expected at PC resorts by Friday. Same with the Cottonwoods.
P.S. I know it's probably bad luck (as if I had that power) but totaling the high figures from the NWS report for Alta, and knowing that they routinely underestimate expected & reported snowfall (unlike everywhere else) we've got a possible 53" here.

I did the same and came up with 61" for Pow Mow.
ya i was looking at pow mow and was wow! it could have just came in time for our trip next weekend. Hopefully this storm system continues and people and the patrol can make the skiing safe.
Long overdue. Ullr rules.
