Where to go in first weeks of February? - Page 2

I returned from5 daysin Aspen Fridayevening.  Wasitfantasticconditions? No. But there wasprettygood skiing.  And somegopdoff-piste skiing as well. There is a big storm hitting tomorrow followed by a stormy week.  If it were me, I wouldn't necessarily pull the plug on Aspen.

Is Alashhka outta the question?  Might be super-duper expensive but sounds awesome.

Super duper expensive is unfortunately out of the question :-)  Alaska does sound great though!

I"m glad to hear this.  I have been watching the weather closely, as Wonderful United/Continental put me back on the original flight I was booked for (albeit under a different flight number) and I no longer have the option to change the trip around without jumping through major hoops.

It looks like the original plan is still in place and I will continue and wish, hope, pray for better conditions by the time we arrive.

Is that a long line for you, or a short one?

Seems like the East Coast from here.  Maybe you're in the Middle East with all of that oil and all?

I definitely consider WA (and OR and ID) West, just haven't had the pleasure of skiing those locations...yet.

I'll refrain from commenting on the Texas remark.

Man, I hope Park City gets some serious snow between now and Feb 5th.  Never skied out west and I'm hoping for a really good time...

Longer than usual, by about 9 minutes and some change.

It's ski-in, ski-out you're looking for?   I'd go with Schweitzer or Whitefish.  Whitefish has the easiest drive from the airport,  Schweitzer has a bigger airport (Spokane) with more flights.

I already mentioned Bachelor; while they don't have accommodations right at the mountain, but it's the easiest 20-30 drive to a mountain (from Bend) you'll ever do.

Snowmass just got 14".  You would be fine for the first week in Feb.  If you do pull the plug, then just wait and book the day before you go anywhere.

I just skied Schweitzer a week ago Saturday and it sucked. Three days prior it was good?

Hmmm....it must be you.  The anti-Ullr.   Stay away from Tahoe, especially for the Gathering!   And don't even think about coming to the Cascades.  wink.gif

Well, what a difference three days makes.  We've got tons of new snow in Whitefish:

As Shred pointed out, aspen reported 12-14 inches today.  Joel Gratz (opensnow.com) is predictin 1-5 inches per day from Thursday through Sunday.  Aspen may not be the stellar conditions of last season, but it is likely to be pretty good.
