PSIA-E members are lame

Prepare for a rant...

I'd like to call out my fellow PSIA East members for being lame.  Apparently out of the thousands of members out there, we didn't find enough instructors to fill up the Okemo Free Ride clinic two weeks from now.  Worse yet, a bunch of you did decide to take the Off-Piste clinic.  What were you thinking?  Have you not skied Okemo?  It's flat!!!  Have you not noticed that until yesterday, there was zero natural snow?  Seriously, what possessed you to sign up for an Off-Piste clinic at a flat snowless mountain, when you could have signed up for the FreeRide clinic?? (Okemo does have nice parks!)

Worked at Okemo for 3 years full time. Yup, it's fairly flat. Doesn't mean it doesn't have decent off piste stuff. I spent 90% of my free time in the woods at Okemo. Besides, haven't you heard? Park skiing is totally 5 years ago. Backcountry/sidecountry is where it's at now. Go buy some Scarpas or Garmonts, and get with the trend!

It's not just Okemo, I would have felt the same about any of the big Southern VT resorts (and I spend a ton of time in the trees  at Stratton).  I just feel like if you're going to have an off-piste clinic, it should be somewhere with decently challenging terrain.  In that region, somewhere like Magic, or Plattekill would be appropriate.

Clinics aren't about challenging terrain. They're about discussing challenging terrain from the bunny hill. nonono2.gif

An off piste clinic at Okemo...

Really makes you wonder who's responsible for that one.

Magic, Killington, Stowe, Mad River?

There may be little "off piste" stuff anyway at that time.

The half pipe has not even begun to be constructed, but there is the air bag!

Jay Peak is where it's at for off piste.  I've noticed that attendance is down in general for events this year.  Maybe the lack of snow?

Are you sure that the "freeride" and the "off piste" clinics at Okemo aren't the same ones?

I thought "off piste" at Okemo was the park.

Otherwise it's tree hacking.

There is a trail off the back skiing to Mt. Holly. Requires car pick up.

Liz asking why is the grooming so bad?

Mike's face shows much displesure with Okemo's grooming and the roller balls are pelleting the camera man

Liz and Mike were REALLY displeased with the grooming here, I keep hearing Okemo knows how to groom, but they left Ice falls, sink hole, wind drifts, rocks and powder all over the place.  Man this grooming sucks.

I cant believe they run a groomer up such a narrow trail

Have you done that?  I'd sign up for that!

Not for nothing, but a fair percentage of PSIA guys at my mountain (the ones who base their cockiness on their pins) are some of the worst skiers and instructors i work with. No disrespect to my mountain, supervisors, co workers etc, but PSIA is looked at as a joke to some of the guys because of these few. And i know for a fact a few of these said instructors made an appearance at said clinic. pretty sure i overheard one of them bragging about how challenging the off-piste clinic was...

I'd love to know where they skied. Because frankly, as off piste goes, it's Neil Young's "Everyone knows this is nowhere..."

Supernova is not even open, not enough snow.  It's a great tree run, but there's so much downed wood in there that you're likely to tear your legs apart trying to get through right now.
