On www.wepowder.com Powder Alert 8 for Europe was announced. Reason for Daphne and me to become very anxious and drive to the Alps.
We drove to Engelberg in Switzerland. When we arrived it was snowing but the next day the snow was to wet. Avalanche danger was up to 5! We stayed on the slopes and left Engelberg after a day of skiing for better snow. We drove to Vallandry (Paradiski in France) were our friend Hubert was. Together with a bunch of friends they had rented a (catered) chalet were we could stay. Nice!
With Hubert we enjoyed some fresh snow. First days we stayed on the (controlled) slopes as avalanche danger was still up at 4 and dropped the next day to 3. The second day it was on 3 we did some runs off-piste (which is not avalanche controlled). We stayed on the safe site, only skied pretty flat terrain. Much of it was already skied out by people who have way more avalanche knowledge then we do because they could ski there at much higher avalanche danger, totally alone, without backpacks in which they could carry shovel, probe...
But even skied out it was very nice.
