How is the snow in Colorado / Utah right now?

Hi all, my buddy and I are thinking of taking a road trip out to Colorado or Utah (or both) in the next couple days here.  We've got friends out by Winter Park and Park City, so we'll be staying around there assuming we go.  How is the snow out there right now?  Any recommendations on where to go?  Thanks!

From when you asked in 2009 about Park  City.

Soooooo I take that to mean it's good right now?  I'm pretty broke, so I'm trying to decide where to go and whether to wait until later in the year maybe.  Thanks for the help!

edit:  Just saw an update to a Utah thread, guess it's pretty bad there.  Your eye roll tricked me!  Sucks cause I probably won't be able to go after January...  I assume Colorado is in a similar situation?

Snow is sparse in CO.  WP is skiable, blues and greens and some stuff on Jane.  Rock skis for sure, enough icy hardpack on most trails to want to avoid even moderate crowds.

Im in Colorado right now. Unless you are REALLY desperate to ski it not worth the trip. Wait a Month at least.

Starting to get worried about the situation in Utah,  I was looking at long range forecast which is predicticting heavy snow end of Jan but then not much again Feb.  (due to travel 6-17Feb)

Ironically we were originally planning another trip to Japan (which has been dumping snow even for its standards by reports) and switched to Utah which is getting very little,  Ive seen the cover is at about 80cm which would even be considered poor in Australia.

Heres hoping things change and we get to see what skiing Utah is really about!

see ya's in a month

Whaaat?  You "have friends" out there but you don't know nothing about this winter???

Read this guys previous posts, he knows enough about ski equipment that he has to know how to look up the weather all by himself.

OK. Guys...we planned our trip many moons ago...and we will be staying in Frisco, CO, MLK wk ( 15th to 21st Jan). we have been thinking of Vail, Beaver Creek...

understand there is no natural snow, so deep powder is of course out of the question but where are the groomed slopes ok ( intermediate / advanced )

Drive to Red Lodge or Jackson/Targhee.

Spent 4 days in Aspen over New Years.  Skied the grooms Sunday on Aspen then the last 3 days in Snowmass.  If ya REALLY need a ski fix and don't mind frozen granular/man made with little coverage then by all means go!  I must admit that those groomers are making the best of what they have.  Skied on demos, dinged them up a bit....BUT!  I still had a ball!  Better than swatting mosquitoes here in the tropics!

We booked a trip to Utah back in August - so sucking or not we're going :(

do the SNOW DANCE!

Having a blast at Park city today. I was worried all last month as i was driving from so. Cal.(12 hrs) So far i have been pleasently surprised. Plently of long runs open to keep me busy all day with packed powder. Also theres a 70% chance of snow in saturday. I went to the canyons yesterday and it was fun, but park city is much better right now.

Richo, we'd love 80cm because 30-50cm is more the norm.

Australian friends are in WP on camp and others (upper intermediates) are at Vail, Breck, Beaver and Keystone. They are BORED!!!!

Other families are in SLC and they seem to have fun making the best of whatever is there.

Make the most of itbeercheer.gif

Sure we will make the most of it!  We fly into SLC  and are staying near Ogden at a friend of friends house while he visits Aust

But Im still thinking/hoping the US of A will come through with some good snow for us!   plsssss

Worst case I guess,  I will be working on some of tips Ive read on here on the groomers and will see some new landscapes.

I wish I had dumb friends with a place they'd swap for winter/summerbiggrin.gif

PS: Want a 1 bedroom overlooking Great Kepple Island. Comes complete with snakes in the pool, crocs washed down from the floods, and sharks caught on baited hooks. The only downside is it's my mom's, ....she wonders why we prefer to go somewhere full of gangs, guns and Wall Street Bankers LOL

I am heading over that way on January 28th, for 3 weeks based around Frisco and Steamboat, I have seen bad seasons before but this one has to be one of the worst, hopefully it will return to normal winter conditions soon.

The last thing I heard about the weather out there was news about winter storms around Christmas, so I assumed it was going to be more a question of where to go than whether to go..  And I like to ask people that have actually been skiing at these places because snow reports don't always tell the full story.  Guess I missed a bunch of other threads about the weather.  My bad

This is a super weird winter, it's 55 degrees right now in Chicago

We had 66 degrees yesterday in Omaha. Went skiing today at our local area - one chair/one narrow run. I was the only person out skiing for the first couple hours. They are doing their best but this warm weather is brutal.  I don't even care if it snows here -- mainly wanting night time temps in the 20s for more snowmaking.
