Need advice on ski length Blizzard Bushwacker 173 or 180

I've done my research and checked out and felt skis in person. I'm going to get the Blizzard Bushwackers but cannot decide between 173s and 180s. Most sales guys are telling me that 180s are a better choice for my weight and will perform better on groomers and hardpack. I am about 5'8" 250#. I am told that my weight is the driving factor for this in the length of these skis. Is this good advice?

180 without a doubt!

Hi Big Bad Rog, I sell and demo the Bushwackers and rounding up on the sizes is pretty common with what people are liking. I agree with the others that the 180's would be better for you. However I don't want to confuse the topic any more for you however I feel that with your weight you might be better with the Bonafide. It has one and a half more sheets of metal and if you really thought you wanted the shorter ski this one would be the better choice. Of course if you ski hard and fast the bigger ski is always better.

Lets see if any one else has any thoughts..

I am also a dealer, and have sent a bunch of these out the door. Probably 180 is a better length. 173 skis pretty short....I am actually surprised they didn't make a 187 in this ski.

FWIW, since you mentioned it, this wouldn't be first on my list if I were looking at a groomer ski.  It is a nice ski, but much more suited to soft snow and soft groomers over hardpack and firm groomers.  I am sure some will agree and some will disagree, but if you had said "primarily skiing soft snow and trees" then I would give it a wholehearted recommendation.  I much prefer the Magnum 8.7 on hardpack.

Thanks guys. I pulled the trigger and bought the 180s. I'm sure they'll be a sweet ride.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was only 3.93" longer, or about 2" more tip & tail.

I'm 165 lbs, 6', the 180 was fine.  I think lengths may reflect intended mission (see below), which is not carving GS turns.

I like the Bushwacker a lot, but it's not an all mountain ski. It's for, ah, bushwacking...

I'm 5'8" and I weigh about 145 lbs.......What size should I go with?  I'm an advanced/expert skier and really intrigued by these sleds.  What do you people think?!?

I broke my back skiing at Heavenly Ski Resort in Tahoe a couple of years ago, but I had a great recovery and now I am stuck on the East Coast.  Just some fun facts about myself......

Turcot45,

Welcome to Epic.  I think you would be better off with the 173.  But, if you're thinking about the Bushwacker, you should also consider the Nordica Steadfast, 90mm, camber, early rise tip, lightweight.  I'm just about your size and after demoing the Bushwacker, Line Prophet 90 and Steadfast, I bought the Steadfast.  I ski mostly trees and they are very responsive and quick.  When I have to get on a groomer to get to a lift, they have great edge grip.  They also handle well in bumps.  Try them if you can.  Glad you made a good recovery from your accident.
